Happy Labor Day! Still on my last day of vacation, but I couldn’t resist!
Pulse of Radio reports video clips of Five Finger Death Punch drummer and co-founder Jeremy Spencer talking about the band’s guitarists, Zoltan Bathory and Jason Hook, has been posted online to promote the upcoming publication of Spencer’s autobiography, Death Punch’d: Surviving Five Finger Death Punch’s Metal Mayhem. Spencer told us how the book came about: “I decided to clean myself up and I went into rehab a few years ago, and the day I got out I basically just started writing my whole life as a therapeutic kind of exercise. I was writing about a thousand to two thousand words a day. I would do it on tour, in the tour bus, wherever we were, and it started to shape up into something kind of interesting. I’m really excited because I think that it’s relatable and I think it might be able to help some people and people can relate to the story.” Death Punch’d: Surviving Five Finger Death Punch’s Metal Mayhem arrives in stores tomorrow (September 2nd) and Jeremy will be in the hardDrive studios on Wednesday morning! The book is described as Spencer’s “personal journey through the wild highs and terrifying lows of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle . . . a wry and rollicking tale of music, addiction and recovery, revealing the path that served as a catalyst to make him the man he is today.” Spencer has committed a percentage of his personal income from the book to support NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, which represents more than 75,000 addiction counselors, educators and other addiction-focused health care professionals in the United States, Canada and abroad. Spencer’s book has already received advance accolades from rock legends and recovering alcoholics Alice Cooper and Rob Halford. Look for Five Finger Death Punch on tour starting Sep 16th….Pulse also reports Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo is working on a TV series based on his life, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Cuomo has teamed with Steve Franks, creator of the series Psych, on a new sitcom called DeTour. The show is described as following a “30-something rock star who . . . walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.” If that rings a bell, that’s because Cuomo did more or less the same thing: at the height of Weezer’s popularity in the mid-’90s, he put the band on hold for a few years to pursue a degree at Harvard University. Fox has expressed interest in making and airing a pilot for the show, although it has not committed to producing a full series just yet. Cuomo told us a while back that he’d be comfortable with putting his life onscreen: “I don’t think anyone’s ever really had an intimate look inside my daily life, so that might be interesting. I don’t have anything to hide, and as long as it’s interesting — I don’t want something to come out that’s just boring for everyone.”…Alter Bridge has finally made available its new limited edition 27-disc box set, titled X, in celebration of the band’s 10th anniversary. Originally scheduled for release earlier this year, the 3,000-copy set includes all four Alter Bridge studio albums, along with DVD, Blu-ray, and vinyl audio copies of Live From Amsterdam and Live At Wembley, including a 3D version of the latter. Also in the box is every webisode to date, hours of unreleased interviews and documentary footage, a coffee table book, a signed poster, and much more. Singer Myles Kennedy says it’s hard to believe that Alter Bridge has been around for a decade: “It’s pretty crazy. We’ve been so busy for the last 10 years that it makes time fly. But you know, it’s a beautiful thing when you think about the fact that we’re still in the game after 10 years. You know, that means we get to continue to follow our bliss and make music, so we’re lucky.” Fans who pre-ordered their copies of the box set will get their copies by the end of this month. Kennedy said in a statement, “X is both a fond look back and a great leap forward after ten years making music together. This collection rewards a precious few of our most ardent fans with almost every thing we’ve ever done — well, everything we want to share! It’s been a tremendous ten years and we look forward to ten more.” Alter Bridge will kick off a fall tour in Louisville, KY on Oct 4th, wrapping up on October 26th in Los Angeles…Three-quarters of Audioslave reunited earlier this week at a belated 50th birthday party for singer Chris Cornell — who actually hit that landmark back in July. A photo from the party was posted at Cornell’s Instagram account showing him, guitarist Tom Morello and bassist Tim Commerford hanging together at the event, with only drummer Brad Wilk missing. Audioslave broke up in 2007 after three albums and five years.
