Pulse Of Radio says Linkin Park has unveiled a lyric video for the song “Rebellion,” which features a guest appearance from System Of A Down guitarist Daron Malakian. Linkin Park MC and producer Mike Shinoda told us how Malakian got involved with the track: “One of their managers is actually a childhood friend of mine* (*editor’s note: an the original singer of the band before Linkin Park called Hybrid Theory) and I gave him a call and I said, you know, I just, I love what Daron does and I’d love to see if he was interested in just coming over and playing a little bit or if he had any ideas for any songs that we could get together on. He came in and we essentially ended up deciding on something that he had brought in. He brought in this cool riff and it was a really collaborative song. I mean, it was just, at the end of the day, it’s like, you know, I don’t know who did what, we were just kind of like all in the mix.”…..Hoping to get this guy on the hotline in a couple of weeks. Rise Against has revealed that its new album will be called The Black Market and that it will be released on July 15th. The first single, called “I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore,” will be available at rock radio, as a digital download and for streaming next Tuesday (June 10th). The band announced the news via a teaser video posted at its website, which also features a snippet of the new track. Frontman Tim McIlrath said about the set, “Rise Against has always been a political band, but also a personal band. We’ve always had songs that have a foot in both worlds. This album is a lot more introspective to me.” McIlrath told us a while back why he thought being a political band never hurt Rise Against: “I think the obvious pitfall is the sort of myth of commercial success, in the sense that you don’t want to alienate any crowd — therefore always walk the line, remain neutral, don’t ever take a stance on anything because you want your music to appeal to just about everybody. I hope that our band can be an example of the exact opposite of that, in that whether people agree with us or not on things, they appreciate that we have stood for something.” Rise Against has already announced several new shows in support of The Black Market, including performances at all three Riot Fests in Toronto, Chicago and Denver and the Made In America festival in Los Angeles. More tour dates will be announced soon.….I’m hearing the Rockstar Uproar line-up will be announced on the 17th…..Here’s an interesting item. I am friends with the original Woodstock’s co-promoter, Artie Kornfeld. May have to check in with him on this report out I am reading on Consequence of Sound‘s site. Wonder if there’s a chance to get some of the original line-up to perform again. Who’s left? The Who (minus John Entwhistle),Creedance Clearwater Revival (only John Fogerty remains an active member, I think), Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Country Joe & The Fish, Santana, Mountain, Canned Heat (drummer tried to pick me up!), Sly & The Family Stone (Now defunct; last I heard, Sly was living out of a camper in the Crenshaw section of LA), Jefferson Airplane (broke up), Joe Cocker, Robbie Robertson (although The Band is pretty much gone with the passing of Levon Helm and Garth Hudson), Johnny Winter, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Hmmm, could be interesting. Sadly, the marquis performances from Jimi Hendrix, Richie Havens and The Band, live on thanks to the Woodstock soundtrack and documentary film (edited by Martin Scorcese.) Have a nice day!
