The tune features the added guitar work of one Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine! The new album is Linkin Park’s sixth studio effort and features a return to a more guitar-oriented style for the band. Frontman Chester Bennington told us guitarist Brad Delson was up to the task: “Mike(Shinoda, singer) came to Brad and said, ‘Look, we always hear these stories about how, you know, when you were in college with Dave (Farrell, bassist) and you guys were roommates together, he would say that you were the best guitar player he had ever met at that point, and we want to bring that guy out. We want to challenge you to write songs that are gonna get young guitar players to run out and try to figure out how you’re playing these songs, and we want the songs to be very guitar-driven.’” I can not WAIT for this album to get in my iPod! That is all!…..Pulse of Radio reported on this story which I think it pretty great. Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett has recorded a cover of the 19th century pop standard “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built For Two)” for a compilation album featuring a number of well-known artists all covering the exact same song. According to Consequence Of Sound, the album, called The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell, also rounds up versions of “Daisy Bell” from “Weird Al” Yankovic, Tyler The Creator, Nick Cave, Katy Perry, Devo‘s Mark Mothersbaugh, and ex-Oingo Boingo mastermind/film composer Danny Elfman. The song has been covered extensively since it was written more than a century ago, and might be best known as the tune that the supercomputer HAL 9000 sings as it is being shut down in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The album was conceived by artist Mark Ryden, who has done cover art for records like the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ One Hot Minute and Michael Jackson‘s Dangerous. The disc will be printed in a limited run of 999 hand-numbered and signed copies on 180-gram red vinyl, costing $99 each. Half the run will be sold at Ryden’s “Gay ’90s” exhibit. which just opened at the Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles, while the rest will go on sale at his website beginning May 13th. Proceeds from sales of the record will go to the music education non-profit initiative Little Kids Rock….AltPress has been keeping an eye on Rise Against‘s Facebook page. The band posted this! We know they have a show this summer in Detroit at a radio festival with The Offspring. More to come!….And Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit is directing a new tv commercial for the dating website eharmony. Word is the band is looking for a new label (apparently their deal with Cash Money out of Florida ain’t happenin’). I gotta say, to all the haters, Fred actually is a decent director. I really enjoyed The Education of Charlie Banks. Watch it on Netflix…. Former My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way has signed with the band’s old label, Warner Bros. Records, as a solo artist and is close to completing his first album. According to Alternative Press, Way revealed the news on his newly-launched solo website, saying in a statement, “My album is near completion, and you should expect to hear things in the near future, even today actually — with a brief snippet of what is to come. I am excited. It’s starting again.”….And finally today, since the story has grown like wildfire all over the net, Pulse of Radio interviewed The Last Internationale, a new band featuring former Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk. When asked what was up with his former band, Brad said, “As far as I know, we played our last show in 2011 at the Coliseum, and if that was our last show, that’s a good way to go out.” He added, “I had sort of had to put it in my head that that band is over in order for me to just move on with my life, to be honest with you, so that’s kind of where that lies. The Coliseum — awesome way to go out.” Brad has also been seen recently in the Sound City documentary and performed on Black Sabbath‘s 13 album. Meanwhile, The Last Internationale have a free downlad of their song “Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Indian Blood.” They’re opening for Royal Blood at the Roxy in LA on May 15th and will be in NYC on Jun 11th at Mercury Lounge. Tonight they’re at the Pageant in St Louis. Hit their website and find them on Facebook….Celebrating birthdays today: Bob Seger is 69!
