So devastating seeing the footage on YouTube of the toll Hurricane Irma has taken so far. My friend has been working on opening a business in Barbuda, which was literally devastated. She wasn’t there, but certainly, her project is on hold. This has been so frightening as it is moving it’s way towards Florida and possibly up into Georgia and South Carolina. To all, please be prepared.
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has revealed that Justin Timberlake is the mystery guest on the band’s new album Concrete And Gold. Grohl had previously described the singer and sometime actor as the “world’s biggest pop star” and “more than a pop star,” adding that he’d “been around a long time.”
Now Grohl has revealed his identity in a new interview with Rolling Stone, saying that Timberlake was recording at the same Los Angeles studio and would hang out with the Foos. Grohl explained, “We’d drink whiskey in the parking lot. He was really, really cool. Then the night before his last day, he says, ‘Can I sing on your record? I don’t want to push it, but — I just want to be able to tell my friends.’” Timberlake ended up doing background “la la la” vocals on one song on the LP, which was not identified. Grohl said that Timberlake “nailed” the part, adding, “I’m telling you, the guy’s going somewhere.”
Grohl first teased fans about the collaboration in June, telling fans, “I’d never spent time with this person, and we had a blast together.” Other cameos on the Sep 15th release include Paul McCartney, The Bird And The Bee‘s Inara George, the Kills’ Alison Mosshart and Boyz II Men singer Shawn Stockman. Congrats to Greta Van Fleet! The Up-and-coming rockers have rocketed to the top of the rock radio charts with the band’s first single, “Highway Tune,” which has lodged itself at Number One on both the Active and Mainstream rock formats. The song has also earned more than 3.8. million plays on Spotify, while the music video has been viewed nearly two million times. The track is taken from the quartet’s debut EP, Black Smoke Rising, which came out last April. Black Smoke Rising was originally slated to be the first of three EPs that would together form the band’s debut album, although a full-length effort is now the likely next release from the group.
Bassist Sam Kiszka told us the band has plenty of music stockpiled: “A lot of it comes from probably two years back, when we were all — we just wrote and wrote and wrote during the week and stuff. Now we don’t have a lot of time to do that unfortunately. But we’ve got a lot of good songs stashed away right now in the studio, pretty much ready to record.”
Kiszka told Pollstar about the material the band has been working on, “I think a lot of material that we have in the works right now is very reminiscent of what the EP sounds like. Definitely expect continuity, but expect new dimensions of our work.”
The Frankenmuth, Michigan-based band is just finishing up the first leg of its first-ever U.S. tour, with a second string of dates slated to begin on Sep 29th in Detroit. (Thanks The Pulse Of Radio.)
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich was the subject of a half-hour special called 24 Hours With Lars Ulrich that aired on TV in Ulrich’s native country of Denmark. The program featured host Anders Breinholt spending a typical “day at the office” with Ulrich. The two traveled to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for the final show of the North American portion of the band’s “WorldWired” tour and spent some time at the Metallica headquarters in San Rafael, CA — all in 24 hours. The program — which is in Danish — is now available to view online.
Ulrich told us a while back that sometimes even having 24 hours in the day isn’t enough for Metallica to do everything it wants: “We always kind of have big picture ideas, we always look ahead, we always, you know, got all these balls in the air, and our application for 28-hour days has so far been rejected, so we’re still stuck at 24. You know, there’s only so much time.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers kicked off the European leg of their current world tour last weekend, with shows booked through November. A second European run kicks off next February. Metallica is touring in support of its 10th studio album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, which came out last November. (Thanks The Pulse Of Radio)
Slipknot has released a clip of the band performing the song “Vermillion” from its new documentary about Knotfest Mexico, Day Of The Gusano. The film premiered in select theaters on Wednesday night (Sep 6th) for a special, one-night-only theatrical engagement. The band has also announced that Day Of The Gusano will be released on home video — with a companion live album also coming out — on Oct 20th.
Directed by Slipknot‘s own M. Shawn Crahan, a.k.a. Clown, “Day Of The Gusano” documents the Iowa band’s first-ever visit to Mexico in December 2015 and features exclusive interviews with Slipknot‘s members talking about the importance of their fanbase and the band’s long-awaited first-ever show in Mexico City.
Talking about the movie, Clown said: “Slipknot still has dreams for itself. Finally playing Mexico was one of them. It’s been a surreal life of rock and roll for Slipknot and the fact that the dreams still go on for us is simply incredible. Thank you.” Guitarist Jim Root adds: “We had such a great time at Knotfest Mexico… Not only with all the friends and bands that were there, but with the fans and the crowd we had to document it with. Now we get to share it with the world.”
The ninety-minute documentary also chronicles the rabid devotion of the Mexican maggots and sees the band hearing personal, emotive stories from some of their fans, all interspersed with footage from Slipknot’s incendiary live show at the inaugural Knotfest México. The film features a full surround soundtrack, so you’ll not only hear the show, but you’ll ‘feel’ it as if you were actually there.
