Sevendust frontman – Lajon Witherspoon has released his debut solo single titled “Love Song.” A song he says “Resonates with what’s going on in the world today.” Find it wherever you download your purchased tunes!
Witherspoon has been talking about pursuing a solo project for a long time. Four years ago in an interview with Alternative Addiction he said: “When I sing and people hear my voice, I have to believe they’ll compare it to Sevendust, which I don’t mind, because that’s where my roots are, but I think my stuff will definitely have rock and a lot more soul. Sevendust has a groove, but I think I’ll be a little bit different.”
As for the band, Sevendust goes into the studio this fall for an album set for releases early next year.
As my grandfather Willie would say, “Ya coulda taken a kill!” That’s what he would’ve said to James Hetfield of Metallica who narrowly missed more serious injury in a spill onstage. Blabbermouth reporting the incident occurred last night (Monday, Sep 04) during the band’s concert in The Netherlands.
Metallica was performing the sixth song of its set, “Now That We’re Dead” at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam when Hetfield apparently took a wrong step and fell into a small hole on the stage that had just opened up (and from where one of four rectangular percussion tables was supposed to come up). Within seconds, a couple of crew members came over to help the frontman get back on his feet as bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett looked on with obvious concern. After Hetfield was lifted back on stage, he continued playing the track while grimacing in pain.
Fan-filmed video footage of the incident — shot from three different angles — can be seen above, here and here.
This is not the first stage accident that Hetfield has been involved in. During a 1992 stadium tour with Guns N’ Roses, James suffered second-degree burns to his face, arms and hands after an ill-placed explosion erupted during the song “Fade To Black.” Hetfield later said: “There was extra pyro in addition to the original pyro and I got a little too close.” He credited his guitar with saving him from further injury.
The European leg of Metallica’s “WorldWired” tour kicked off in Copenhagen, Denmark on Sep 02 and will run through November. After a break, the trek will pick up again on Feb 01, 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal, and continue through May, finishing up in Helsinki, Finland.
During Corey Taylor‘s solo show at NYC’s Irving Plaza to promote his new book, America 51, he did a 33 minute Q&A with the audience. Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman was asked about the social stigma that is associated with depression, addiction and trauma, particularly in the wake of the recent deaths of Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell.
“For those of you that don’t know, I’ve fought depression my whole life,” Corey said. “It’s been something that has just been a part of my life. And I didn’t even realize it was something that I had to deal with until it was later on when I had the right people around me to kind of see that I was struggling with it and then they helped me get help. So I’ve not only been able to develop the skills to deal with it and go on with it, but I also know that it’s important to not only talk to people but also let people know that they’re not alone when they’re dealing with it.”
He continued: “It’s the easiest way to succumb — to feel isolated, to feel like you’re the only one feeling that way. And it’s not just people who deal with depression — there are people coming back from overseas with PTSD, there are people who are coming back loaded with insane issues that it’s easy for people to forget that you can cocoon yourself and close yourself away from the world. So my message is, if you’re feeling that, if you’re struggling with it, do not be afraid to reach out to people, do not be afraid to find [help].
“One of the worst things that ever happened was losing people like Chester,” Corey added. “He was a good friend of mine, and I was as stunned as you guys were. Because I knew how sweet he was and how open he was and how fucking amazing he was as a person. And the fact that he fought and fought and fought until he couldn’t fight anymore broke my heart. So for him, and for people like Chris, who I looked up to, and for friends of mine who I know have taken their own life, I am taking that and I am turning it around and saying not one fucking more!
“It doesn’t stop with me. You take that. If you know someone who fucking deals with it, if you know someone who’s fucking hurting, if you can’t talk to them, find someone who can, put them in touch with the organizations and the people who can get them fucking help.”
Corey Taylor’s new book, “America 51“, which is subtitled “A Probe Into The Realities That Are Hiding Inside ‘The Greatest Country In The World‘”, was released on Aug 08 via Hachette Audio as a digital download, and from Da Capo Press as hardcover and ebook editions. In the book, Taylor sounds off on American history, religion, racism, Donald Trump, the Clintons and Reagan, as well as reflects on what it’s like to experience America while touring in a band.
Celebrating life today: Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and Prophets Of Rage is 49, Dweezil Zappa, son of Frank Zappa and musician, is 48.
P.S. I made an error yesterday: It’s Prince WILLIAM and Kate, not bloody Prince CHARLES she is having a baby with! THAT would be just plain WRONG! LOL Sorry for my blunder!
