SEETHER RETURN WITH FEROCIOUS NEW ALBUM POISON THE PARISH Seether, (Shaun Morgan — vocals/guitar, Dale Stewart — bass/vocals, and John Humphrey — drums) one of hard rock’s most successful and enduring outfits, return on May 12th, 2017 with their seventh full-length studio album, entitled Poison the Parish. The first release via frontman Shaun Morgan’s new label imprint Canine Riot Records, Poison the Parish is among the heaviest and emotionally pure efforts of the band’s illustrious career. The album’s epic lead single “Let You Down,” premiered yesterday; stream it here. Additionally, the track’s beautifully shot, horror-inspired video was unveiled today via VEVO; watch it here. Recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, Poison the Parish marks the first album produced in its entirety by the band’s lead singer and songwriter, Shaun Morgan. Playing with a newfound ferocity and purpose, the new material gelled quickly, providing Morgan’s dense, melodic grooves and brooding subject matter a gritty luster and room to breathe. Fifteen years deep into an incredibly consistent and rewarding career, Seether continue to thrive, pushing their creative boundaries while remaining true to their fiercely loyal, worldwide fan base. Poison the Parish is Seether at their very best, a gripping and self-assured affirmation of a quintessential hard rock band in peak form. Seether also just announced the 5th Annual Rise Above Fest, the largest suicide awareness event in the world, which will be held Saturday, July 22nd and Sunday, Jul 23rd at Darling’s Waterfront Park in Bangor, Maine. This year’s performers include Korn, Shinedown, Stone Sour, Skillet, Halestorm, Falling in Reverse, and more. Morgan, Rise Above Fest’s founder, was honored last year with the “Artistic Expression” Award from the National Council for Behavioral Health at the Awards of Excellence in Las Vegas. Preach, Mr Van Halen! Preach!
This is pretty cool. Eddie Van Halen has donated 75 guitars from his personal collection to the non-profit, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. Van Halen, along with foundation president Felice Mancini, appeared on CNN and spoke about the program, which divvies out the guitars to low-income schools. Van Halen spoke about the importance of music education in public schools said: “It’s a must. It has to be taught.” He went on to explain, “My whole life has been music. I could not imagine anything else. It really hit me when I graduated high school, you sign everybody’s yearbook and everybody asks you, ‘So what college are you going to?’”
Van Halen went on to say: “Music is such a necessity. It touches people’s souls. Music is the universal language to me. It transcends everything.” Felice Mancini added: “The kids share the guitars, they learn, they graduate and then the instruments stay in the school.” According the report, the NAMM Foundation cited “children who play instruments get better grades and live healthier lives.”
Van Halen, who began recording its debut album 40 years ago this year, have been able to navigate through changing demographics and shifting trends throughout its career. We asked Eddie Van Halen how the band has been able to rise above rock’s changing tides: “I don’t know if we’ve risen above anything, but I do know that we have never been one to follow trends. Y’know, whether it be punk, disco, rap, industrial, whatever terms they have nowadays — we’re a rock n’ roll band, and we make music that pleases us. We make music from the heart.” (Thanks The Pulse Of Radio)
Happy 65th to Brad Whitford from Aerosmith.
