The Pulse Of Radio reporting today on the new video from Five Finger Death Punch for the tune “My Nemesis.” (My personal fav song from Got Your Six, btw.)
The clip features multiple storylines, including a man finding his son using drugs after losing their wife and mother, a teen girl leaving home to get away from her drug-using mother and a young boy also exiting his home to escape from an abusive father. The three characters eventually end up on a beach, staring out to sea. The video was directed by Nick Peterson, who also helmed their “Coming Down” and “Wrong Side of Heaven” clips.
Guitarist Zoltan Bathory said about the track, “In life everyone has a nemesis . . . something or someone that puts you in an impossible scenario, where you are presented with a fork in the road. Sometimes there is no other choice but making a hard choice.” Bathory told us that singer Ivan Moody needed a little guidance from the band when penning the lyrics for this tune: “When Ivan wrote the lyrics of this song, it was going pretty good and then all of a sudden he took a left turn somehow and started to, you know, just change subject in the middle of the song. So we had to take a — it took a little bit of convincing, like, ‘Ivan, you kind of lost us there, you know?’“
The band has launched a website in conjunction with the video’s launch where fans can share stories of overcoming struggles and discussing their own “nemesis.” “My Nemesis” is the third single from Got Your Six, and has already climbed into Top 20 on the Active Rock radio chart. Five Finger Death Punch will team up with Shinedown for a series of co-headlining shows this May.
Pulse also reporting Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell told Seattle radio station KISW in a new interview the band’s creative process for making a new album is “more relaxed” than it used to be when the band first achieved success. Cornell explained, “There’d be a counter in front of us, and someone would put a red X on the date that we were going to start the promotional tour for the album that we had not started to write yet. So now, we just write, there’s no discussion really at all about when it’s going to come out, or what that means, we just write songs . . . it just seems like it’s more relaxed.”
Cornell added, “I think one of the things that was a factor in us kind of splitting up in the first place was that everything had a clock on it. It was a time period where, I guess in a good way, the music business was still pretty healthy. You were always in a cycle of writing, recording, and touring. We were late for everything, always. We’d sit down and have these meetings, and we ended up not having meetings because it was so awful.”
Soundgarden disbanded in 1997 but reunited 13 years later in 2010. The quartet issued a new studio effort, King Animal, in 2012. The group has recently gotten together to begin working on material for its seventh studio outing, which could be out before the end of this year. Cornell also toured last year on his own in support of his fourth solo studio effort, Higher Truth.
