Asked about the tour, Corgan replied, “I think our plan is to approach the tour as an artistic opportunity. Push one another to play a cooler, heavier, deeper set than we would, with the idea of the night ending with us playing together. But the whole NIGHT will be a unique experience.” Corgan told us the tour came about organically after he and Manson recently re-established their friendship after not speaking for 15 years: “We saw each other not too long ago and it was one of those — I’m sure people know what I’m talking about — you see somebody and it’s like no time has passed. We just clicked back into our old friendship and realized that we missed each other and there are unfortunately agents in L.A. now taking credit for this beautiful tour, but it was actually his idea. He was the one that pitched to me and said, ‘We should do a tour together,’ and I was like, ‘Let’s do it.’” Manson said in the Q&A the two have influenced each other both musically and personally over the years. He explained, “You can really see our friendship, and our influence, of each other . . . we were very much into the same writers, the same inspiration of alchemy, and that was one of the side effects of our friendship.” Asked to share something that is not widely known about both of them, Corgan wrote that they are “both cat lovers” and “we love cats more than we love women.” (sure!) Manson chimed in that both of them “would live in a country where cats were presidents.” The Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson will kick off their co-headlining “The End Times” tour on Jul 7th in Concord, CA, winding down on Aug 8th in Cincinnati, OH. See the Road Ragepage for the tour dates …..Metallica frontman James Hetfield, Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell and ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar will all take part in the second annual Acoustic-4-A-Cure concert on Friday, May 15th at The Masonic in San Francisco. Also joining the show’s lineup are Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chickenfoot drummer Chad Smith, Chickenfoot guitarist Joe Satriani, singer Linda Perry and more. Acoustic-4-A-Cure was created by Hagar and Hetfield, both Bay Area residents, who wanted to raise funds and awareness for the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF. Last year’s inaugural sold-out concert included Hetfield’s acoustic rendition of the Beatles‘ “In My Life,” Hetfield, Satriani andBillie Joe Armstrong doing a medley of Bob Seger‘s “Turn The Page” and Green Day’s “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams,” and an all-star closing jam of Bob Dylan‘s “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35.”….Scott Weiland and his band The Wildabouts still intend to tour the U.S. next month despite the death last week of guitarist Jeremy Brown. According to Alternative Nation, the band did postpone a show scheduled for this week in London until September 3rd, saying in a statement, “Unfortunately, due to our guitar player Jeremy Brown’s passing, this week’s show in London will be postponed until September 3rd. We will be coming back to play a full UK and European tour at that time. Your current tickets will be good for the show on September 3rd at the Garage, and thank you to all of our fans for understanding while we grieve and take next steps to be back for the US tour in May.” Brown passed away at the age of 34 from unknown causes on March 30th, one day before the March 31st release of the Wildabouts’ new album Blaster. In a statement issued on the day of the album’s release, Weiland said, “I’d like to dedicate today’s release of our album,Blaster, to my friend and collaborator Jeremy Brown. It breaks my heart that you are not here to receive the recognition you so deserve and worked so hard for.” There is no word yet on who Weiland will seek as a replacement for Brown in the group…..Steven Tyleris going country! He signed to Big Machine’s Dot Records down in Nashville. What is going on?! Rock stars wanna be country artists and vice versa! Must be something in the water! Meanwhile, Aerosmith is touring Jun 24-Aug 07….And finally today: Nothing More is launching a new campaign to raise awareness about mental illness in conjunction with the release of the band’s new single and video, “Jenny.” The song was written about frontman Jonny Hawkins‘ sister, who suffers from bipolar disorder. Hawkins told Billboard, “The story of ‘Jenny’ is an ongoing struggle that my family and I are battling with. It continues to be one of the most confusing situations I’ve ever had to navigate in life . . . We all know a ‘Jenny,’ whether it is a family member or a friend.” Hawkins told us the song “Jenny” is actually based on a family history of mental and physical illness that affected his mother, his aunt, and his sister. Hawkins revealed that his mother fought her own losing battle with cancer while trying to help her daughter with her own illness: “It was just a heartbreaking but also inspiring thing to watch unfold because my mom should have died much earlier and she went through some very, very atrocious physical ailments because she hung on for my sister. But the power of a mother’s love for her child is what I saw through that.” Hawkins revealed his sister has been “in and out of the system with hospitals and jails,” adding, “It’s very tricky and very strange when people have something wrong with their brain.” Nothing More has also teamed with organizations like To Write Love on Her Arms, Bring Change 2 Mind, the International Bipolar Foundation, The Jed Foundation and Young Minds to promote awareness of the issue through the release of the single and the band’s tour. Nothing More has launched a PledgeMusic campaign to raise money for those charities, opening an online forum for fans to share their stories of either personally dealing with mental illness or knowing someone who does. What wonderful guys they are….Dave Grohl appeared on last night’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. Check this out. I think I need to set my DVR for this show! Have a great day!
