Big day today for yours truly. We have Papa Roach, Islander and Seether interviews happening (two in the studio, one at the venue) and lots going on. We are also going to be talking to all the bands on the Linkin Park tour on Sunday, so reminder, if you have questions, send them in!……Meanwhile, my friends in Korn are still out with Slipknot in Europe. I was sent a photo of Jonathan Davis in a kilt when they played Glasgow, Scotland! Aye, love a Scotsman in his kilt!…..Speaking of Slipknot, I’d like to share this Pulse of Radio report that the band is touring Europe and Australia for the next month or two, but the masked metal act might also be planning a second North American leg of its Prepare For Hell Tour. The band is already booked to play several festivals this spring, including Florida’sWelcome To Rockville on April 26th and North Carolina’s Carolina Rebellion on May 3rd, but Lambgoat has detected an April 30th date in New Orleans on a Ticketmaster site as well. Could the band be booking its own headlining shows in between the late April/early May festival run? After finally releasing its latest album, .5: The Gray Chapter, last fall, singer Corey Taylor told us Slipknot intends to stay on the road for a long time: “I mean, there is no limit to where we could go, you know. I mean, we get so many requests from fans in Alaska, for us to play up there, and I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about the fans up there, so I want to really try and make the effort to get up to Alaska and play there, maybe couple that with like a Canadian tour. So we’ve got plans on the burner to try and get to as many of our fans as possible in the next probably year and a half.” I may have to do some investigating, but it seems to me the band will certainly be doing more touring in the US and are certainly headliners, no? Here’s the band performing “The Devil In I” on Friday night in Sheffield, England…. Pulse also reports Rob Zombie will release a new live album, Spookshow International Live, on February 24th. The CD will feature 19 tracks, including fan favorites “Dragula” and “Living Dead Girl,” plus live renditions of tracks from Zombie’s latest studio effort, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, and a cover of the Ramones‘ “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Zombie said about the new live disc, “It’s been eight years since our last live album, so we figured it was time for another. Actually, we weren’t planning on it, but we recorded a few shows and they sounded really great, so we thought, ‘F**k it! Let’s get it out there.‘” Zombie recently told the San Jose Mercury News that his next solo album is “the best record yet, truthfully.” Zombie is scheduled to begin production on his next film as a director, 31, in February. He raised money for the film’s budget through a Kickstarter campaign….Marilyn Manson releases his ninth studio album, The Pale Emperor, on today (Jan 20th). The disc follows up 2012’s Born Villain and was recorded primarily by Manson and composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Tyler Bates. While Manson’s last few albums have not been big sellers, he told us a while back he defines success a different way: “It’s how you feel when you go to bed at night. Money is motivating to everybody. It’s not the answer. And, you know, impact is very important to me artistically, but success-wise, the fact that I’m able to be creative as my life, and I can go to bed knowing that, that’s successful to me.” There are some really great tunes on this one, so check it out. It’s been streaming a few places. Manson kicks off his tour tomorrow in Washington, DC. As a quick side note: Not only are Marilyn Manson and Johnny Depp best friends, but Manson is godfather to Depp’s daughter. Manson revealed, “I gave her her first set of high heels. Unfortunately she was in diapers when I gave them to her. It was awkward when I saw her 14 years later and Johnny’s like, ‘Hey this is Uncle Manson. He gave you your first pair of high heels and changed your diaper.’ That sounds really bad. But it was amazing.”…Loudwire reports after incorporating lines and phrases from interviews into songs on the fly during the recording sessions for the Sonic Highways album, Foo Fighters did it again at a recent show in Santiago, Chile. This time, overwhelmed by the response of fans, frontman Dave Grohl took the audience chant of “Ole ole ole! Chile! Chile!” and turned it into a full-fledged rock number. When it was finished, he told the crowd, “We’ve got a new Foo Fighters song. I like it.” Still trying to figure out if Dave will drum at the Grammys with AC/DC. That would be so freakin’ cool!…Previously unseen footage of late guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown performing with their short-lived post-Pantera project Gasoline has been released. The 47-minute video was filmed on New Year’s Eve 2001 in Dallas, Texas and features the group playing cover versions of Led Zeppelin and Metallica songs, as well as six original tracks. The lineup also included singer Thurber T. Mingus and bassist Sean Time. A fan named Chris Stiles who filmed the show posted the video online, saying, “I don’t think it’s right to just hold on to it without letting others see what it’s like to be around (Dimebag).” Dimebag and Vinnie later formed Damageplan, which was touring when Dimebag was shot and killed onstage in December 2004. (Team Rock)….And finally today, a memorial concert in honor of late Static-X frontman Wayne Static will be held tonight (Jan 20th) at the Whisky-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles. A number of Static’s friends will perform at the event, including members of System Of A Down, Coal Chamber, Snot and Dope. The remaining members of Static’s solo band will also perform Static-X’s 1999 debut album, Wisconsin Death Trip, in its entirety with guest vocalists. The show is being billed as “a night of incredible music with dear friends and family paying tribute to the true king of evil disco and a kick ass party not to be missed.” BigTimeBroadcasting.com is hosting a free live webcast from the event beginning at 10:00 p.m. PT. Static, whose real name was Wayne Richard Wells, died in his sleep at the age of 48 last Nov 1st. There is still no official confirmation of the cause of death, but the medical examiner at the time ruled out foul play. Statement from his wife Tera Wray and a publicist indicated that Static’s death was not drug-related….LOTS O’ Birthdays today: Linkin Park’s Rob Bourdon is 36, Sid Wilson of Slipknot is 38, Matt Tuck of Bullet For My Valentine is 35, Paul Stanley of Kiss is 63, Greg Kriesel of The Offspring is the Big 5-0, Bill Maher of 59 and David Lynch is 69 and feelin’ fine.
