Had a nice chat yesterday with Phil Labonte of All That Remains. I wasn’t aware he’s been married for two years! He’s usually referred to Jorie as his girlfriend, but nope, she’s his wife! For the last 6 weeks, they’ve been in Hawaii. His wife works for the military and moves all over the place all the time. Next she’s moving to Virginia, which is fine since Phil and his band will be touring for the next year or so. Anyhow, Phil and the band are getting ready to get into pre-production for their tour with In Flames and Wovenwar, which kicks off Feb 20th. I told him to get ready to freeze his ass off. It’s gonna be quite a shock when he arrive home in New Hampshire soon. (I’ve been wearing long johns….it’s 9 today here in the frozen Apple.) The band’s new single “This Probably Won’t End Well” drops Tuesday on iTunes and the album, The Order of Things, arrives Feb 24. All That Remains will be part of the Rise Above Fest in Bangor, ME on May 9 with Godsmack, Seether, Papa Roach, Slash and more….Foo Fighters have arranged a surprise show on Saturday night in LA at the Fabulous Forum! They’ll perform in the round! Supposedly, it is for Dave Grohl‘s 46th birthday, which is Jan 14th, but the band will be traveling to South America then! Tix are $50 and part of the proceeds go to MusiCares, Rock School Scholarship Fund and Sweet Relief. Tickets are probably sold out but check this link: http://bit.ly/fooforum. Meanwhile, Pulse Of Radio reports on Taylor Hawkins. First there was the 2011 Foo Fighters documentary Back And Forth, which chronicled the band’s history (including Hawkins’ od). Then there was frontman Dave Grohl‘s Sound City film in 2013 about the now-defunct studio, in which some of the band members appeared. And finally there was the eight-part HBO series this past fall which documented the making of the latest Foos album, Sonic Highways. That, says drummer Taylor Hawkins, is enough. Hawkins told Q magazine even though he understands what Grohl is after with all the movies, he personally doesn’t enjoy being on camera. Hawkins explained, “It’s never been one of my ambitions to be famous for being on TV. But I think Dave’s on the money. It isn’t purely business ambition, because I know he truly loves to do this . . . He loves the process. Just as I, on a much smaller level, like the process of recording a song. That’s not enough for Dave any more. No, I don’t like being filmed, but it is part of it now.” Hawkins told me he didn’t like being filmed while making Sonic Highways: “I’m probably in the movie less than anybody really, because of my unwantingness to hear every smartass thing I had to say all day long. You know, I’ve just got a dumb, loud mouth and I don’t shut the hell up ever and so, ‘I can’t wear a microphone all day, everybody’s gonna hate me by the end of this.’” (He also told me he thought he came off as a dumbass, especially when he said he didn’t like the blues in the Chicago episode.) Anyhow, sad I won’t be in LA this weekend (or anywhere else where I don’t have to wear long johns.)….Lou Brutus is set to be on the hotLine next week with Marilyn Manson! This will be the first interview we’ve had with the man since 1996! Looking forward. The Pale Emperor is out Jan 20th. If you have questions you’d like to have Lou ask, send ’em along or hit the new hardDriveRadio APP Interact Live section! Meanwhile, Pulse Of Radio posted excerpts from Manson’s recent Rolling Stone interview. He has revealed in a new interview with Rolling Stone that he has a few odd habits when it comes to having sex. For starters, the shock-rocker will only have sex with the lights off and his underwear around his ankles, saying, “I’m just really shy, despite what you’d imagine. I have a phobia that the house is going to catch fire, and I don’t want to be naked.” Manson, who was once married to burlesque queen Dita Von Teese and has been involved with actresses Evan Rachel Wood and Rose McGowan in the past, is currently dating American photographer Lindsay Usich. Manson continued, “I don’t really like being intimate with people. I think maybe twice in my life have I taken a shower with a girl, and that was in the dark . . . I also have a great fear of bathtubs, maybe because my mother used to bathe me as a child and I have fractured memories of just not enjoying it.” Despite his phobias, the 45-year-old Manson says he must engage in what he calls “sexual congress” a minimum of five times a day, with 10 being the most recent maximum. Some of Manson’s hangups may come from his childhood, which the singer has not spoken about much in the past. Manson revealed his mother suffered from Munchausen by Proxy syndrome, which causes people to induce or exaggerate symptoms of illness in children. Manson spent a lot of time in the hospital as a child and had allergies, but now thinks some of his maladies may have been a result of his mother’s condition. He said, “I didn’t find out about the Munchausen until later in life, and I’m not sure how far back she had it. What I can say is that mental illness runs in the family.” Ah, that explains a lot….The Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen told Team Rock she hasn’t really had a chance to begin working on songs for the band’s follow-up to last year’s breakthrough hit, Going To Hell, explaining, “I’m always jotting down ideas and things, but it’s hard, for me at least, to write on the road, ’cause it requires isolation for me. I need to be alone with my own thoughts, and you’re never alone on tour. You live on a bus with twelve people, so you’re just constantly around people. And you’re constantly working on tour, so there’s really never enough time to sit down and actually focus.” Momsen added, “I’ve got little pieces of things here and there. But it’ll be done when it’s better than Going To Hell. I always say, I’m not gonna put something out that’s not better than the last work that we did, so we have to beat ourselves every time. And that can take forever, or it could magically happen in a week.” Momsen told us she’s never sure when the inspiration for a new song is going to strike: “It’s different every time. There’s no real process or anything. I mean, the writing dictates where the song goes and how it comes together, and my joke is that if I knew where inspiration came from, I’d move there.” The band is getting ready to tour with Nickelback starting Valentine’s Day and in April, will be hitting the road with Halestorm. We should have tour dates for that run on Monday….Happy Birthday today to David Bowie, who turns 68. Robbie Kreiger of The Doors is 69. Stephen Hawking is 73. And Larry Storch of F Troop is 92. (Loved that show!)
