OMG! Now we know why Phil Rudd was not in the new AC/DC press shot or around for the videos for “Play Ball” or “Rock or Bust,” the new album’s title track! I was just watching the morning news and heard about this! Here’s a report from Pulse Of Radio: AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been arrested by New Zealand police and charged with attempting to procure a murder, according to multiple media reports. Rudd also faces charges of possessing the drugs methamphetamine and cannabis, and of threatening to kill. Rudd’s home in New Zealand was raided by police this morning (Nov 6th) and the 60-year-old drummer was taken to court, where he entered no plea to the charges later that afternoon. He was released on bail and will reappear in court on Nov 27th. (According to a report on NBC, he went to court shoeless.) Rudd is alleged to have tried to hire a hitman to kill two men. Their names and that of the intended hitman were not released to the media. If convicted, Rudd faces a maximum of 10 years in jail. The alleged events reportedly took place between September 25th and September 26th. Rudd was replaced for the filming of the videos Oct 3 & 4 by drummer Bob Richards. Singer Brian Johnson reportedly told fans at the shoot that Rudd was unable to participate due to an undisclosed “family emergency.” AC/DC’s new album, Rock Or Bust, will be released on December 2nd. The 11-song set is AC/DC’s first without guitarist Malcolm Young, who is suffering from dementia. He has been replaced by nephew Stevie Young. Rudd joined AC/DC in 1974. He exited the band in 1983 and was replaced by Simon Wright, then Chris Slade. When Slade left in 1993, Rudd rejoined the band. Since 1977, he has been the only Australian-born member of the group. Rudd moved to Tauranga, New Zealand in 1983 and has lived there ever since. His first solo album, Head Job, was released on Aug 29th. Man, I am in shock!….Nickelback is hitting the road! Maria Brinktold me the band filmed it back to back with “Sick Like Me.” Yes, they are resourceful!….And here’s your Daily Dose of Foo Fighters news from Pulse Of Radio. Frontman Dave Grohl is not a fan of the trend of playing classic albums in their entirety live, telling NME in a new interview that he “f***ing hates” when bands create a tour around the concept.” Grohl added, “I don’t like it when bands do that. It’s presumptuous. It’s lazy.” Even though the 20th anniversary of the first Foo Fighters album is coming up, Grohl said he wouldn’t consider playing the record from front to back, explaining, “I don’t mind playing a lot of those old songs just to revisit, but the best way to celebrate our 20th anniversary isn’t to focus on 20 years ago, but to focus on the last 20 years, meaning two years ago and six years ago and eight years ago.” Foo Fighters began as a solo project for Grohl, who wrote and played everything on the first album himself. He told us a while back how the end of Nirvana finally pushed him to do it: “I always have played guitar and have always written music on my own and would just make demo tapes and record in my basement studio for fun, and was horribly embarrassed with my voice and never really confident with my playing. After Nirvana was finished I thought, you know, I’m too young to become a studio session drummer, I might as well go try my hand at actually singing and playing guitar. And it worked out.” Grohl told NME he did at one point consider re-recording the first Foo Fighters album with the current band. He explained, “The first record isn’t the Foo Fighters; it’s just me. So what if, for the 20th anniversary, we went in and re-recorded the first record — same songs, same arrangements, in sequence — but as the Foo Fighters 2014? Taylor (Hawkins, drummer) was like, ‘Are you out of your f***ing mind?! That’s the worst idea ever! People would f***ing hate it!’ And Pat (Smear, guitarist) said, ‘That’s exactly why we should do it!’” Foo Fighters will play a massive show at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. on July 4th, 2015 — the exact date 20 years ago that the first Foo Fighters album was released. The band’s new studio effort, Sonic Highways, comes out Monday (Nov 10th). The Foos are playing in Austin, TX tomorrow night (Nov 7th) at Austin City Limits to celebrate the premiere of the fourth episode of HBO’s Sonic Highways documentary series. Check Dave out 20 years ago! …Whoa. Wayne Static‘s wife is letting her voice be heard! The drama surrounding this past weekend’s tragic and sudden death of Static-X frontman Wayne Static took another turn on Tuesday (Nov 4th) when his widow, Tera Wray, issued a statement saying that Static was not using drugs when he died. Wray also took a swipe at other unnamed musicians who had hinted online that drugs were indeed a factor in the 48-year-old musician’s death. Wray wrote, “It has come to my attention that many have questions and opinions about the cause of the death of my husband in which I now find is necessary to further respond. Wayne was not taking drugs. If anything, he was a drinker, and did not OD.” Wray added that Static’s autopsy will be done “by this weekend,” but that complete results may take up to six months to be finalized. She wrote, “We all know that both Wayne and I had abused narcotics with alcohol in the past, which I am sure took a toll on his body, heart and soul.” As for the opinions posted by other musicians, Wray wrote, “I find it disrespectful to our families and myself for negative spins that are being posted. For Wayne’s music peers to take it upon themselves to make comments about us when they are not part of our daily lives or know us outside of tour and music, just to grab a headline to get themselves at the top of the gossip page, is disgusting.” She continued, “This is not about you or what you feel is your expert opinion on people you have no relationship with, so shame on you. Do not act like we liked your band either.” Wray concluded by asking everyone to “please show some respect to (Static) and his memory.”
