Sitting on the back porch this morning on what will probably be the last warm early fall morning. Love it!! Got my Subaru back this morning, and from the front, looks like a brand new car! My BF just said maybe we should drive home in reverse and hope a deer hits us so we can the entire body replaced! LOL….Pulse Of Radio informs us Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told Canada’s QMI Agency in a new interview he’s still finishing up the band’s new album, Sonic Highways, as well as the upcoming HBO series about its creation. Grohl explained, “This has been two years of my life — and I’m still not done, man. On the break between the last interview and this one, I had to go in there and approve edits on the next episode that we’re working on. My life has been consumed by this thing — which is amazing, and I’m so psyched — but, when it’s done . . . I’ll probably miss it. But, good God, I can’t wait to get this thing (done).” The album arrives on Nov 10th, a day earlier than albums are usually released (Tuesdays,) while the eight-part series, also called Sonic Highways and directed by Grohl, premieres on Oct 17th. Grohl and his wife Jordyn welcomed their third daughter, Ophelia, into the world Aug 1st, although on a sad note, his father James passed away just five days later. With the album and HBO series approaching their launch dates, Grohl said, “The day I’m really excited about is for people to hear the first (single), because it’s unlike anything we’ve ever done before, but it’s instantly recognizable as our band. If we’ve ever gone out on a limb with a rock song, it’s this song.” (Well, geez, Dave, might we know when to expect it or maybe the title or something???) The TV series documents the making of the album at iconic studios in eight different cities — Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. — plus the history of each city’s musical roots, scenes and the studio itself. BTW: Dave turns up in a new documentary called Salad Days, which chronicles the rise of the ’80s Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene — described as one of the most important underground movements in music. Grohl played from 1986 to 1990 as drummer for the band Scream and says about the scene in the movie’s trailer, “I had heroes that I would get nervous around, you know? . . . those f***ing people changed my life.”…Also from Pulse today, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello told Rolling Stone he has 19 songs ready for a new solo album and promised the sound will be “very hard and very funky.” He explained, “I want to take my guitar playing places it’s never been. I want to take the musical underpinnings of what I do and blow them up and put something brand new together that’s not the Nightwatchman, that’s not Rage Against the Machine, that’s not Audioslave, that’s not Street Sweeper Social Club — it’s something completely different and that feels like an exciting challenge.” Morello told us he wants the album to sound as big as possible: “It’s time to rock. I want to make the craziest guitar record that anyone’s ever heard. The idea is that this is the Hendrix of now.” Morello said he intends to work on the new album throughout the fall, adding, “I’m really going to challenge myself in the presentation of those songs. I want it to feel like it’s 10 steps into the future.” He’s made several acoustic folk albums over the past few years under his pseudonym The Nightwatchman. Sadly, Rage Against The Machine reunited in 2007 for live work, but has been inactive since 2011. For most of the past year and a half, Tom has been a member of Bruce Springsteen‘s E Street Band, touring regularly with the group and playing on eight songs on Springsteen’s most recent album, High Hopes….Speaking of Springsteen and Grohl, Metallica, Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen will headline next month’s The Concert For Valor. The live concert will be held in Washington, D.C. on November 11th on the National Mall at 7:00 p.m. ET. Among the other artists scheduled to take part are Eminem, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, the Zac Brown Band, Jamie Foxx, John Oliver, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg — with additional artists still to be announced. The show is being co-sponsored by HBO and Starbucks and executive produced by Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Joel Gallen — who will also direct. HBO will broadcast the concert, giving their affiliates permission to open the signal to non-subscribers. HBO Chairman/CEO Richard Plepler said in a statement: “We are honored to play a small role to help raise awareness and support for our service men and women. Their immeasurable sacrifice deserves our nation’s gratitude. This event will not only celebrate their service, but help remind Americans of the many challenges they face on and off the battlefield.” Last November, Starbucks committed to hiring at least 10,000 veterans and active military spouses over the next five years. In April, the Schultz Family Foundation, co-founded by Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and his wife Sheri, committed $30 million to support veterans’ transition to civilian life. The show will mark a rare television appearance by Metallica, who have been at home working on new material since finishing a European tour earlier in the summer. I knw Mr Goetzman. He is a friend of a former boss I worked for in LA when I worked in the music video biz repping directors. Might have to call in a favor to get to that show!!!!!…..More news: Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder has released his cover version of John Lennon‘s “Imagine,” which Vedder has called “the most powerful song ever written.” Proceeds from sales of the song will benefit Heartbeat.fm, an organization that uses music in an attempt to foster peace between Israel and Palestine.
