Ugh, why does it feel like a Monday?…..Well, finally, some news on my pals Papa Roach! Pulse of Radio and Blabbermouth reported Papa Roach guitarist Jerry Horton said in a new interview conducted last week at England’s Reading & Leeds Festivals with Sophie Eggleton he will be publishing a book of his own photography in the near future. Horton explained, “It’s in the works. I enjoy photography on an amateur level and being fortunate enough to travel everywhere, I wanna take advantage of it.” Horton added, “I don’t necessarily have any sort of focus on any one particular thing; I just shoot whatever strikes me — landscapes, portraits — and somebody within our camp said, ‘You need to do something with this stuff.’ So we’re gonna try and put out a book.” Horton also spoke about the recording process for the band’s eighth studio album, F.E.A.R. (Face Everything And Rise), which is due out in early 2015. He revealed the band worked with two producers, Kevin Churko and his son Kane, saying, “We did the first five songs with Kevin, the dad, and then the last seven with the son, because (Kevin) had a prior engagement with In This Moment . . . It was a different sort of workflow, but we got into it and it was cool. And I think we came out with some really good stuff.” (Ed. note: who knew Churko had a son who worked side by side with him! That’s pretty cool!) F.E.A.R. was recorded in Las Vegas at Chopshop Studios, with Horton saying, “It was incredibly dry. Each one of us had humidifiers in our bedrooms. We felt our skin cracking.” (Dude, I know the feeling!) The new disc will follow up 2012’s The Connection. The title track will serve as the first single, while an exact release date and tour plans are all to be revealed later….Meanwhile, last I heard, In This Moment are still working away on their album and their new label, Atlantic, has yet to decide what the first single will be. Waiting with much anticipation for that too!….Feeling tha love: Pulse of Radio also reports on this. Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith sat down to chat for an hour together in a new video posted at Music Radar, in which Gossard admits the Chili Peppers changed Pearl Jam’s lives by taking them on an early tour. Gossard recalled, “We went from selling no records on that tour to selling a bunch of records by the end of it.” Gossard said watching the Chili Peppers play every night made the members of Pearl Jam work harder on their performance, “Being able to be on the side of the stage and watch like you and Flea get into it . . . I mean, that like really affected me dramatically. And you guys were so good to us too.” The Chili Peppers took Pearl Jam out on a two-month fall tour in 1991 along with the Smashing Pumpkins. Pearl Jam got the slot when former Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons — who was friends with Eddie Vedder — gave Flea a Pearl Jam tape to listen to. Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament told us not long ago the band’s goals when they started out were modest: “You know, I think we all thought, like, if we sold 50, 60,000 records, that would allow us to make a new record and, you know, I think mostly we wanted to get out and play. You know, I think we wanted to be a touring band and we wanted to be better musicians and we wanted to be more powerful and tighter. And we knew in that process we’d be better songwriters, and so I think for us, you know, at the time the focus was just to be a better band.” Gossard and Smith also reminisced in the video about other times they hung out together as well as little side projects that they played together in from time to time. Pearl Jam will head out on a North American tour next month, while the Chili Peppers are currently at work on their 11th studio album….OK, Foo Fighters have posted yet another snippet to get us all tweeking, or is that twerking? Check it out here. The band posted on Twitter it had received test pressings of the vinyl version of the record, then posted the brief sample of roaring guitars. Sonic Highways is due out on Nov 10th, with the HBO documentary mini-series chronicling its creation premiering on Oct 17th. (Did we say Nov 10th is Lou Brutus’ birthday?)…..I knew when I heard Live was getting back together, it sounded too good to be true. But indeed, Live has announced its return and the debut of the veteran band’s new singer, Chris Shinn. He is best known as the lead singer of Unified Theory, a band composed of Shinn; former Blind Melon members Brad Smith and Christopher Thorn; and former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen. The PA-based group’s new disc, The Turn, is its first since 2006 and will be released this fall. A single has yet to be revealed from the band’s eighth studio effort, which comes 20 years after Live’s breakthrough sophomore effort, Throwing Copper. The Turn will be released via Pledge Music, with 10 percent of all proceeds raised donated to Musicians on Call, which brings “music to the bedside of hospital patients that otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience it.” Nice….Hey right before vacation I heard a couple of new Marilyn Manson tunes. Jeepers, was I surprised! Should be coming out sometime later this fall…..Celebrating life days: Aimee Osbourne is 31, Keanu Reeves is 50.
