Heard the new single from Nickelback last night called “Edge Of A Revolution.” It’s different, edgy and you can dance to it. What else can I say? We can’t wait to play it on the air in about 10 days time. The band is putting the finishing touches on the album and hopefully we’ll get to talk to the guys soon…..Meanwhile, tried to get in to the old CBGB’s last night (now John Varvatos‘ store with the original stage and parts of the original walls) to see Gaslight Anthem, but I gave up since it was wall to wall people. That’s the true one thing that never changed about that place. And this was for a show that wasn’t even announced publicly! Oh well….Pulse Of Radio reports Linkin Park and 30 Seconds To Mars kick off their co-headlining North American trek, dubbed the Carnivores Tour, tonight (Aug 8th) in West Palm Beach, FL. On a conference call this week to talk about the tour, Linkin Park singer Mike Shinoda was asked about recreating the sound of the band’s last few and heavily layered studio albums live: “Although there is the technology in the setup of what we’ve got going on onstage — and I feel like it’s very high-tech for a music set-up — we also feel like we have a great deal of responsibility to be a live band. So, you know, whereas we have the opportunity to put certain things in the computer or on a sampler and whatever, we’re very careful about what we do put in the computer because we want to be playing everything, we want the crowd to see us performing the song.” Shinoda told us earlier in the year the concept behind the Carnivores Tour was “that visceral, kind of animal instinct that I think people hear in a lot of our music. It’s aggressive, it’s big and that’s the kind of show we want to bring to the fans.” I am looking forward to catching it later this month….Pulse also reports Rob Zombie has narrated a public service announcement for the “Puppy Rescue Mission,” a newly launched campaign whose primary mission is to bring home to the U.S. dogs who assisted American soldiers in war zones, reunite them if possible and give them permanent homes. Many of the dogs not only helped physically save soldiers’ lives, but offered them companionship and love while they were stationed in dangerous situations thousands of miles from their families. Zombie says in the spot, “Soldiers in Afghanistan would find these dogs and bond with them and sneak them on the bases, even though they weren’t supposed to have them. It was probably the only moment of sanity for these guys, when they spent time with them . . . But they weren’t allowed to take them home, and if they could, it was so expensive. That was a cause I could really understand and get behind.” The Puppy Rescue Mission (TPRM) was founded by Anna Cannan, who came up with the idea when her fiance Chris was deployed to Afghanistan. The dog featured in the spot, Saiga, is an actual rescue animal from an Afghanistan war zone. In other news, Zombie has also posted a lengthier explanation online of why he is crowdfunding his next movie, titled 31. Zombie, who hopes to raise $2 million, explained, “As the years go on, the game changes all the time, and a movie that you could get made years ago, you cannot get made anymore . . . So that’s why, at some point, you end up in this scenario. Because if you wanna do stuff outside the system, you’ve gotta function outside the system.”…Blabbermouth reported on some fan-filmed footage of Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo performing the Who classic “The Real Me” with Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins,King’s X/KXM’s singer/bassist Dug Pinnick and Death Angel frontman Mark Osegueda is now online.
