What? I can’t hear. I was at Rockstar Energy Mayhem last night and I think I was bombarded by sound. In a good way! Had a blast at the Mayhem stop in Saratoga Springs. It was hot, sticky and rockin’! Got there just in time to see Islander bring it to the Victory Records’ stage (that also had some killer performances from Ill Nino and Emmure.) Interviewed Mikey Carvajal from Islander. Sweet dude. Then I hustled over to Trivium‘s bus to hang with Matt Heafy. Nicer man you’d ever want to meet. Told me he and the band are already working out riffs for the next record. But the coolest thing is he holds yoga sessions that some members of the bands on the tour attend in the afternoon. I was thinking: years ago, these tours, Ozzfest for example in the 90’s, was when everyone would get smashed before and after their shows! It was total mayhem! BBQ’s going 24-7, beer bongs, you name it. Now, people are making smoothies, working out, eating vegetarian and no booze in the dressing rooms, and some of the bands, like Korn, have brought their kids with them and are doing sight seeing trips during the day. It’s funny how times have changed! Speaking of Korn, their set was great! They have this new production with lighting that is killer. I videoed some, and maybe I can upload it later. And I hear Jonathan Davis and his camp are working on a clothing line called Team JD. Will have more on that in the coming weeks! I spent some time on Asking Alexandria‘s bus with Danny Worsnop. He cracks me up. Now he definitely makes up for all the other bands who are NOT partying! That guy likes to get his drink on! And I think he still thinks it’s the ’80’s! LOL Funny fellow. We had a bunch of good laughs. He’s brought out his gal and his beautiful golden retriever puppy called Cowboy. Even Cowboy was getting into the act eating wild mushrooms! LOL Danny has perfected the microwave steak. (Ew.) He told me about his band’s performance at the AP Awards on Monday in Cleveland. Wish I had DirecTv to watch it on AXS. They did the Duran Duran tune “Hungry Like The Wolf” with special guest Jonathan Davis. Danny was bummed his band did not win the awards they were up for. Looks like Bring Me The Horizon won for Album of the Year for Sempiternal and International Band of the Year! (Watch this and I think I counted 50 f-bombs! LOL) And let me interject with this info if you didn’t catch it. The Gibson Brands AP Music Awards were held on Monday night on the pier next to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame And Museum in Cleveland, OH. During the event, which was hosted by Blink 182‘s Mark Hoppus, the event also featured performances by A Day To Remember, All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, Falling In Reverse, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Machine Gun Kelly, Misfits,Sleeping With Sirens, Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco and others. Several awards were giving out with Joan Jett receiving the Icon Award, Billy Corgan was honored with the Vanguard Award and Slash accepted the Guitar Legend Award from Aerosmith‘s Joe Perry. Slash said via Twitter, “Receiving the Gtr (Guitar) Legend award from APMA was quite the honour. Receiving it from friend & mentor Joe Perry put it over the top.” Getting back to the Mayhem tour, another highlight for me was meeting and talking to Arin Illejay of Avenged Sevenfold. He wins the most popular guy on the tour. So welcoming. Was great getting to know him. I also briefly hung with M Shadows (I call him Matt.) Asked him what was up with the mobile game. He said in about two weeks they hope to make an announcement with a firm date for it, so stay tuned! Their stage show was unreal. I gotta say, if you are in the vicinity where this tour is going, you MUST get out to see itI Unfortunately, I missed seeing Mushroomhead, Texas Hippie Coaltion, Miss May I and Body Count, all of whom I did want to see but was over backstage or on someone’s bus at the time. Next time for sure! But I did get to see Ice-T and Coco with their two STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS bulldogs, Spartacus & Maximus (see them on Twitter) in catering. OMG, those dogs were AWESOME! They even had their own doggy sized laminates! LOL….Happy 51st today to manager Paul Geary (former drummer for Extreme.)
