Happy start to the 4th of July weekend, people! I’m already out of the Big Sweaty Apple and up in the mountains. Here’s some pre-firework news for ya:
Heating up summer to a boiling point, Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum hard rock luminaries (and my boys) Korn have revealed the official details for their latest release, a deluxe reissue of their 2013 album THE PARADIGM SHIFT: WORLD TOUR EDITION. The collection will be exclusively available at Best Buy stores in North America starting July 15 and available to pre-order here: http://tinyurl.com/mqrdvo3. For the WORLD TOUR EDITION, the Bakersfield quintet lock and load last year’s critically acclaimed The Paradigm Shift, with three brand new songs including their just released single “Hater,” plus “The Game Is Over” (I think this one was written for the soundtrack to Hercules, but didn’t make it) and “So Unfair.” In addition, it’s been beefed up with a bevy of live tracks recorded all over the globe and expanded artwork. It’s the ultimate way to experience The Paradigm Shift. “Hater” invaded radio airwaves just last week and has already vaulted into the Top 30 at Active Rock. For it, the group teamed up with hitmaker/producer Don Gilmore, who also produced The Paradigm Shift album. The tune is available now to purchase on iTunes at http://found.ee/kornhater_itunes or stream on youtube.com/kornchannel. Among the other unreleased material, Davis opens up about his young son Zeppelin’s battle with diabetes on the powerful “So Unfair.” Check out this exclusive interview with Davis on Billboard.com. And listen for the interview with JD on hardDrive XL the week of Jul 14 on the XL! In addition, Korn will hit the road co-headlining this summer’s installment of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival with Avenged Sevenfold, starting this Saturday, Jul 05 in San Bernardino, CA. In other news, Pulse Of Radio says Nothing More‘s self-titled debut album landed at Number 33 on the Billboard album chart yesterday (July 02), selling 8,600 copies in its first week of release. The record arrived in stores on June 24th although it had been completed several months earlier. Frontman Jonny Hawkins told us the long struggle to finish the record was well worth it: “All the weeks and months and years of working hard, trying to make ends meet every month as you record the record — as we did — you look back on all that and you look and saw how the question always popped into your mind along the way: is this worth it? Is this actually gonna see the light of day? Are people gonna hear this record? It’s really cool to kind of be at this place now where we see that it is getting its fair share out in the world. It’s amazing.”….And congrats to Mastodon whose Once More ‘Round The Sun debuted at Number 6 (66) on the Billboard Top 200, selling 34,000 copies in their first week. We’re hoping to share some exciting news about them very soon….One week from tomorrow, the kick off of the hardDrive Live Tour with Black Stone Cherry, We As Human, Kyng and Fifth Freedom. I was just informed our Joplin, MO stop will also include Shallow Side….Pulse Of Radio reports System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan said in a new interview he is “not really happy with where the band is right now,” adding that the four musicians in the group still have “a lot of issues, things we just have to work out” before they can begin making a new studio album. System Of A Down last released new music in 2006 with the Mezmerize and Hypnotize albums, but despite starting to tour again in 2011, the group has not shown any signs of returning to the studio. Dolmayan launched an online comics stores called Torpedo Comics, and recently started a Kickstarter campaign to fund his new project, These Grey Men, with the goal being to produce a star-studded covers album and tour. Meanwhile, guitarist Daron Malakian recently appeared on the new Linkin Park album, The Hunting Party, Serj Tankian has been recording as a solo artist since 2006 and Shavo Odadjian has several projects he is working on and has done with Wu Tang Clan’s RZA, called Achozen, and has a new project with like 16 different artists called Project Rogue. It’s a crowd-funded record and you can check it out here and on Shavo’s Facebook page…Was on the hotLine with Alex Varkatzas of Atreyu! He’s so psyched the band will be returning to the scene and have already announced they’ll appear at Aftershock on Sep 14. He said the band has already recorded some music and they plan to release it later this year. Very exciting! They went on hiatus in 2011. Aftershock also announced Escape The Fate, TechN9NE and Islander have been added to the line-up…. P.O.D. has completed work on their long-anticipated acoustic project which they are looking for funding with, as well as an in-studio album they hope to have out later this year. I was talking with Wuv Bernardo and he told me they hope to have the acoustic project out by August. P.O.D. will be at Rockfest in Cadott, WI later this month! Have a great 4th!
