Soundgarden, last night at Webster Hall. What a grand moment in their history and for all the folks in the audience. They performed Superunknown in its entirety from start to finish. Chris Cornell kept the pacing going, even saying that the set list time for just those songs was under 75 minutes, he vowed to the crowd they’d play for at least 120 minutes or more! And the band was tight, even when performing songs they had never done live before or had done in a very long time. At one point, when they were about to do “The Day I Tried To Live,” bassist Ben Shepherd stepped up to the mike and said “The last time we performed this song in NYC, the Rangers won the Stanley Cup!” Of course, a rousing chant of “Let’s Go Rangers!” broke out! The night was great, I got to see their managers, one of whom I hadn’t seen in many years. Good times all around. Also good to see my old compadre David Fricke from Rolling Stone. Thanks to Angelo and the band for making it a wonderful evening of rock…..I’m glad Aaron Lewis got angry at idiots who were molesting a teen crowd surfer at Saturday’s Rockfest in Kansas City. He stopped Staind’s show to yell at the jerks who were being in appropriate. Being the dad of 3 girls himself, his Daddy instinct to protect came out in full force! Glad to see that……Pulse Of Radio said Godsmack has offered up a short preview of “1000 HP,” the first single and title track from the band’s sixth studio album, due out this summer. Singer Sully Erna told us how the song came together: “It’s one of those songs that surprisingly came out and was written from back to front in like an hour. I started putting one thing together with the next, and then Shannon (Larkin, drummer) started jumping in and then we arranged the whole song, and literally within an hour, maybe 90 minutes, this whole song was written and it was one of the last songs that we wrote, and it ended up becoming the first single.” “1000 HP” will officially arrive at radio stations next Monday (June 9th), with a digital download available on that Tuesday (June 10th). The album 1000 HP will follow up 2010’s The Oracle. An official release date has yet to be nailed down, but Erna said that fans should watch for tour dates in August. Erna told us last week that the new album is “a little bit more raw, a little bit more open. The writing was a little freer. The production is really kind of raw and in your face, and the songs, man — I’m really, really excited about these songs.“…Linkin Park has released a new song titled “Wasteland” along with an accompanying lyric video. The track was co-produced by Warner Bros president Rob Cavallo and is the third to be taken from the band’s upcoming album, The Hunting Party, following “Guilty All The Same” and “Until It’s Gone.” The Hunting Party is out on June 17th. Linkin Park is spending the first half of June playing in Europe, but will kick off their 25-date North American Carnivores tour with 30 Seconds to Mars and AFI on August 8th.
