Waking up to a beautiful Monday! Love spring! BTW: did you watch Game Of Thrones last night? OH MAN! Probably one of the most gruesome!!……Pulse of Radio reports a new teaser has revealed the name of the upcoming HBO documentary series starring Foo Fighters is Sonic Highways. The trailer was unveiled following the cable channel’s airing on Saturday night (May 31st) of an edited version of the April 10th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, at which Grohl was inducted as a member of Nirvana. The series will follow Foo Fighters to eight iconic recording studios in different parts of the country, documenting the region’s musical history as well as the making of the new Foo Fighters album. Grohl told the Hollywood Reporter, “After making the Sound City movie, I realized that the pairing of music and documentary worked so well because the stories give substance and depth to the song, which makes a stronger emotional connection to it. If you know the story behind the artist, or the story behind the studio, or the song, it widens your appreciation for the music.” Grohl added, “I thought okay, this is going to be the story that will influence the next Foo Fighters record. We’re coming up on our twentieth anniversary, we’re an American band. Each one of these cities have had artists and music that have influenced us directly, so let’s go there.” Among the cities the show will visit are New Orleans, Seattle, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. As for how the project has influenced the sound of the new Foo Fighters record, Grohl said, “You’ll recognize Foo Fighters in this record but you’ll also be surprised by us. We’re doing things that we’ve never done before. And I want to say that it’s only eight songs but I think it might be our longest record because, as I was writing these songs, I had to take a cinematic approach.” Grohl has apparently been so inspired by the project that he’s already thinking of the album after this one. He revealed, “I already know what we’re doing for the next Foo Fighters record . . . I came up with this idea a month and a half ago. The guys were, like, ‘Dude, we have to finish this first.‘” Sonic Highways and the new Foo Fighters album — which we suspect will be titled Sonic Highways as well — will both premiere this fall. Can’t wait!…..Sully Erna from Godsmack told me even though Godsmack’s new single, “1000 Horsepower,” arrives at rock radio this week, the song might never have been written and recorded at all. Following the tour cycle for 2010’s The Oracle, singer said years of working together almost non-stop were taking their toll on the group: “You know, it was getting rough. You know, I’m not gonna lie — the band was getting into a funky place and there was talks about breaking up and, you know, not really staying a band anymore. But you know, I think it was just some time we needed, some time to really reassess the thing and really appreciate what we have as a band. We’ve always been kind of level-headed about things and eventually we just needed to let a little time pass and let the dust settle.” Sully is headed to New York next week, and we’re excited to have him in the hardDrive studios!…..Tonight, I am fortunate to have received a ticket to see Soundgarden perform their Superunknown album in its entirety at Webster Hall. Looking forward and see our the hardDriveRadio Facebook page and our YouTube Channel for Part 1 of the 3 part video interview with frontman Chris Cornell. It was a great time with him in the studio and hope you enjoy it!….Pulse also reports British duo Royal Blood tentatively plan to release their first full-length album in August. Speaking with NME.com, the band members said, “We’ve kind of been writing and recording over the past year in batches. We’re kind of aiming to get our record out this August. We’re at a stage now where we’re pretty happy with it. I think we’ve got a few more trips to the studio, but it’s definitely in the final stages.” Singer/bassist Mike Kerr told us about the origins of the pair’s huge sound: “I’ve always been fascinated with making one sound that sounds big. I eventually kind of feel like I cracked this code I was after to make this huge sound and I’ve managed to keep it a secret up until now as to how I do it, which is fun, ’cause I kind of feel like it’s my thing and it took a long time for me to craft.” Royal Blood will perform at Lollapalooza in August and do a proper fall run with dates to be announced soon….Glad to see Head returned to Korn over the weekend at Rockfest in Kansas City. Wish I was there! When he returned home, in Nashville, he was still in a lot of pain, but he’s come through the forest and was well enough to hop on a plane and perform. I am glad he’ll have more time to recoup at home before Korn head out on Mayhem next month. Love my boy, Head….Heard Rockfest was awesome again this year. Was keeping an eye on my pal Jason Nivens’ Facebook. Can’t wait to see more pictures and read the stories. Lou Brutus was at Rockfest many years ago, and we wish Rock on the Range wasn’t so close to Rockfest time-wise, or we’d be able to attend both. One of these years, we’ll get back there!…Pulse quick hits: Metallica‘s James Hetfield has teamed with eyewear manufacturer Sutro to collaborate on the design for a limited edition pair of sunglasses. A statement from Sutro said, “James has been a great supporter of what we do, so we wanted to build a special edition of his frame. We sourced a blackened nickel finish for the hinge, choose mineral glass lenses for their superior optics and durability, and got our friends at Mulholland to craft a custom leather case.” The run has been limited to 800 frames worldwide. (Blabbermouth)…Los Angeles rockers Black Veil Brides have set October 28th as the release date for their fourth album. The follow-up to last year’s Wretched And Divine: The Story Of The Wild Ones is produced by Bob Rock, whose resume includes albums by Metallica, Motley Crue and others. Wretched And Divine came out in January 2013 and featured the Top 15 rock radio single “In The End.” (Blabbermouth)…Are ’90s alternative rock legends Faith No More thinking about making new music? The band reunited in 2009 after 11 years apart to embark on a well-received and successful tour, although little has been heard from them since that trek ended. Well, now the group has launched a new Twitter account and one of their first posts reads, “The reunion thing was fun, but now it’s time to get a little creative.” Some European festival gigs are also on the agenda. (Noisecreep)….And finally today, Incubus singer Brandon Boyd will not be playing Judas Iscariot after all. A two-month concert tour of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, scheduled to begin on June 9th in New Orleans, has been canceled. Boyd was set to star in the show, along with JC Chasez of N*SYNC, Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and singer Michelle Williams. No reason has been given for the cancelation, but it seems likely that poor ticket sales were the culprit. (THR)…Happy 73rd to Rolling Stone drummer Charlie Watts and Happy 44th to Cypress Hill’s rapper B-Real!… Ann B Davis aka Alice of The Brady Bunch, RIP!
