May Day! On this date in 1970, I hitch-hiked from Milton, MA to Washington, DC to be a part of the giant college campus movement to march on the Capitol against the war in Vietnam. The Boston area colleges’ mission was to block the Arlington Memorial Bridge. It was a several day event leading up to the march on May 9th, but when we arrived in Potomac Park, it was filled with students from all over the country and a mini-Woodstock had begun with The Beach Boys, Sly & The Family Stone, Joan Baez, and countless other bands I can’t recall performed. The days leading to the protest were amazing meeting other students from all over, and there were 100,000 of us. We slept in a friend’s VW bus (they weren’t called mini-vans yet.) Someday, when I write my book, I will reveal more. I was arrested and spent 17 hours in jail for blocking traffic in front of the White House. War sucks…..In the news: According to a report on Consequence of Sound, Foo Fighters band members and producer Butch Vig are posting pictures on their personal social media pages of various members in different locations around the country, as it is becoming apparent the band’s “never before used” method of recording an album is coming to light. Pictures of Dave Grohl at Rancho Dela Luna in Joshua Tree, CA, at Washington, DC’s Inner Ear Studios, and at Nashville’s United Records Pressing. Butch at the 606 Studios in LA, Taylor Hawkins in an unnamed studio and another location cited as Chicago’s Electrical Audio studios, the band with Cheap Trick in Chicago, and more. Rumor has it, there will be a summer release and a single may not be too far off……Meanwhile, Dave, the ever-present, non-stop workin’ Grohl has signed an artist to his Roswell label, according to a report on Billboard and Consequence of Sound. Grohl has produced the seventh studio album from singer-songwriter Kristeen Young. In an interview with Billboard, Grohl said Young’s forthcoming LP, The Knife Shift, is “unlike anything I’ve done before,” adding that the record features “piano, drums, bass, and guitar. That’s it. It’s bare, but very deep. Raw, but melodically complex. I love Kristeen. So much. I’ve never met anyone like her. Neither have you.” He plays drums on a tune called “The Pictures of Sasha Grey.”….Another busy camper is one Brendan O’Brien. Recent projects included Stone Temple Pilots, Bruce Springsteen, Seether, Aerosmith and Pearl Jam. His next project is making the next AC/DC album up in Vancouver, BC. Why there and not Atlanta where he is based? Dunno. Must be they like the sound in the studio up there. Could the record be done by year’s end? Wonderers are wondering……And finally today, Pulse of Radio reports a woman who has launched a Facebook campaign to have Ozzy Osbourne knighted has already gotten more than 4,000 of the 5,000 signatures she has aimed for, according to the Birmingham Mail. 45-year-old Helen Maidiotis‘ site, “The Knighthood Of Ozz,” has already gotten the endorsement of the Black Sabbath singer’s daughter Kelly, who tweeted, “This really needs to happen.” Maidiotis originally wanted all four original members of the group to receive a knighthood, but when told that was unlikely, she settled on Ozzy. She explained, “Our campaign has reached Buckingham Palace, as a friend of mine had sent off letters explaining about our battle for Ozzy’s knighthood — and they have replied positively.” WOW! To see the Queen grant Ozzy Knighthood? What’s next? A role on Game of Thrones?….Speaking of, Emilia Clarke, aka Daenerys Targaryen, turns 27.
