Nice to hear one of the highlights of the two weekends of Coachella this year were ROCK! Slash joined Motorhead on stage for some tunes, including the classics “Ace Of Spades” & “Overkill.” (Talk about musicians who wear iconic hats!) Who knew? I bet most of the audience had no idea who Motorhead even was! Meanwhile, Pulse of Radio says Slash has spoken with the U.K.’s Kerrang! magazine about his third solo album, which he and his band Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators recently finished recording. Slash remarked, “All I can tell you is that it’s a really f***ing great record. I’m very proud of it, but I don’t want to get into, ‘Oh, dude, it’s epic,’ or ‘It’s the heaviest thing ever.’ It’s very rock and roll, and, as always, it’s very diverse in feel, and I’m just super, super proud of everything that we collectively put into making the thing. It’s just going to be a bitchin’ record.” Slash added he and his band have grown a lot together during the making of the new CD, saying, “The band has become so synergetic. I showed the music to the guys, and what they wrote flowed immediately. I was really amazed at how, from the second we started pre-production up ’till now, the record just flowed. It’s rare that it happens like that.” The new album is tentatively due out in September and will follow up 2012’s Apocalyptic Love. Slash released his first self-titled solo effort in 2010. Single should be out in June. Can’t wait for Slash and Aerosmith to tour the U.S. this summer. Here’s a fan filmed clip of Slash with Motorhead in Los Angeles….More exciting news about the new Linkin Park album! We already know that Daron Malakian of System of a Down and Page Hamilton of Helmet. Now comes news our friend Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine appears on a tune called “Drawbar.” Let this be fair warning: this record is going to blow your socks off, people! Of the other 5 songs (besides the single “Guilty All The Same” which features rapper Rakim) I’ve heard, “Keys to the Kingdom,” “The Wastelands,” “Until It’s Gone,” “All For Nothing” (with Page) and “Rebellion” (with Daron), the intensity of these tunes are almost a throwback to when rock was extreme and proficient. I can only say this: Hard Rock Fans of Linkin Park: you will be most satisfied with this record. It’s got BALLS!…..Metallica’s Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone the band has a boatload of pieces of tunes, riffs and choruses, but no full tunes. Not just yet anyhow. The band will concentrate on their touring duties, but once that is over, the serious songwriting process will ensue and hopefully they will head into a studio sometime before the end of the year. Meanwhile, the “Metal Dane” is also currently the face of not one but two separate Danish ad campaigns for alcoholic beverages, according to Blabbermouth. In the first, he is one of six people chosen by Danish brewer Carlsberg to design a bottle for the company’s “Stand Out Collection.” Carlsberg created a six-minute marketing video (in Danish) with Ulrich in San Francisco which serves as an ad for the campaign. And Ulrich was also recently selected by the producers of Gammel Dansk, another Danish alcoholic beverage, to star in a similar campaign, this one titled “Not Like The Others.” Ulrich appears in commercials for the product and will also serve on the jury for a contest where prizes will go to individuals or groups that “go against the flow.” Watch that here….Last week, I mentioned Soundgarden will kick off this season’s Guitar Center Sessions on DirecTV’s Audience Network (Channel 239.)
