This is supposed to be a day off for yours truly, but the crappy freezing rain/snow here in upstate NY at my little cabin is forcing me to stay indoors! So you win! Here’s some news: Pulse of Radio reports Avenged Sevenfold has a lot of plans in store for the rest of 2014, but first on the band’s to-do list is the long-awaited arrival of its mobile video game, Hail To The King: Deathbat. The game has been two years in the making and singer M. Shadows told us where things are at: “It’s gonna be a big game. It’s really pushing the boundaries of mobile in a lot of technical ways. Right now we’re just working out the bugs. You know, there’s some people sitting in a dark room somewhere just playing the game over and over and sending us notes on it. So that’s kind of where it stands.” In the meantime, the band is planning a 10th anniversary release of their second album Waking The Fallen (2003), from footage from some shows they did with The Rev (Jimmy Sullivan) from a few shows in LA and Ventura, CA. A DVD could surface in the coming months….Pulse of Radio also reports Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is the subject of a new comic book from Bluewater Productions, a publishing company that has previously chronicled the life stories of rock icons like John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Keith Richards in its popular Tribute series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the book will be published on April 2nd in both print and digital form to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s suicide. The comic book tells Cobain’s story from his early days growing up in Aberdeen, Washington to his grappling with fame to his battle with addiction and emotional problems. Cobain’s life fascinates the public two decades after his death and we asked his biographer Charles R. Cross why that is: “You know, the guy lived such a huge life, even though he died two decades ago, there’s so many ways he still has affected culture that in some ways it doesn’t even feel like he’s gone.” Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis said, “The Tribute line of comic books tells the stories of people that have made a significant difference in the world while they were with us. It is a way for us to honor these people who have made a difference in the world.” Bluewater will soon publish comics about late Queen singer Freddie Mercury and the comedy troupe Monty Python’s Flying Circus. In a related item, another book is being released on April 1st on Nirvana entitled “Nirvana: In The Words of the People Who Were There” by a former music blogger I used to read all the time, Carrie Borzillo. A limited number if signed copies will be sold to benefit the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention. Sad to think Kurt was in such a bad place 20 years ago that led to his suicide in April 1994. We will be honoring him on hardDrive XL on Tuesday night April 8th with comments from Neil Sanderson of Three Days Grace and Vinnie Paul of Hellyeah and Pantera. Plus, Lou Brutus will be talking about the band as well. Be sure to check us out….And that new British band I was telling you about, H2NY-their APP has launched and you can find it here… It appears Gwar will go forward with its annual “Gwar-B-Q” event this summer despite the death of frontman Dave Brockie last week. The event will take place on August 16th at Hadad’s Lake in Richmond, Virginia, with the band also scheduling a public memorial for Brockie on August 15th at the same location. The group is awaiting a toxicology report from the medical examiner to confirm the cause of Brockie’s death, a process that could take between one and three months. The 50-year-old Brockie was found dead in his home on Sunday, March 23rd. (Rolling Stone)…The genius behind the recently released Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails parody track, “This Is A Trent Reznor Song,” has now issued an equally hilarious music video. Reznor himself has yet to comment on the song or the video; perhaps he’s too busy planning this summer’s tour with Soundgarden.
