Spring It On! It’s a balmy 42 right now. I’ll take it!….The mighty Metallica posted a new song yesterday, “Lords of Summer,” which they debuted over the weekend in Bogota, Colombia. Here is a link. It slams! In an interview we did back in the fall with Kirk Hammett, he said Metallica “never has a shortage of ideas . . . we have too many ideas.” Robert Trujillo told us a while back he never knows what to expect when the band starts writing: “The whole thing is, when we’re being creative, when Metallica’s creative, the last thing you want to do is interfere with the flow that happens between Lars and James, ’cause these guys bump heads and they get on a roll with things. And you really gotta let them do their thing, ’cause it is magic, and let them be productive when that’s clicking.” Let me point out, this is not a single nor is it actually a track off their next album. Metallica last road-tested new material while touring in the summer of ’06 and none of the songs ended up making 2008’s Death Magnetic album. The Metallica By Request tour will hit Europe this summer, with a single North American date confirmed in Montreal. 17 songs in the band’s set each night are being determined by fans voting online, with the last slot reserved for the new tune. (Thanks Pulse of Radio!)….In this new age of digital music delivery (sadly, the last large record store in NYC, J&R Music, closed over the weekend), I’ve been tipped off to yet another platform. There is a new band out of the UK called H2NY. (Short for Halfway To New York.) Later today, they are launching their music video for “Bleed” on their own app. Check for it. The video was directed here in NYC by the amazing director Wayne Isham. (You may recall several weeks ago, I was invited to the film shoot.) Wayne has done huge artists from Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Avenged Sevenfold to Metallica. He rocks! So take a moment to search for it on your smart phone. You’ll thank me later….Rolling Stone reports former Lou Brutus heartthrobs, the ’90’s alt-rock quartet Veruca Salt, has reunited and recorded two new songs for an exclusive 10-inch single that will be available on Record Store Day, April 19th. The new tracks, called “The Museum Of Broken Relationships” and “It’s Holy,” are featured on the single along with the band’s classic hit “Seether.” The new recordings are the first from the original band since the 1997 album Eight Arms To Hold You (or Eight Arms To Hold Lou, as it was also referred to.)… And finally today, the amazing Dave Grohl (and former paramour of one of the members of Veruca Salt) is at it yet AGAIN! He is among the many stars featured in a mock documentary asking the question “Who has the sexiest elbows in rock?” Apparently, it’s Jason Narducy of indie act Split Single, but the three-minute movie also features appearances from Margaret Cho, ex-Husker Du frontman Bob Mould, comedian Fred Armisen and more. (Thanks, Rolling Stone.)….Happy 38th Birthday today to my pal Chester Bennington of Linkin Park!
