Yesterday, here in NYC, I’ll bet you most high school students from the suburbs skipped school to be in the city for St Patrick’s Day. If I only had a dime for each roving, drunk, kid who was stumbling down the block swearing, I’d retire……Pulse of Radio and our roving reporter who was at SXSW reports Soundgarden has tapped veteran drummer Matt Chamberlain to fill in for Matt Cameron on the band’s 2014 tour dates, including Soundgarden’s upcoming summer trek with Nine Inch Nails. Cameron will sit out the shows shows due to his live commitments with his other group, Pearl Jam. Chamberlain was briefly a member of Pearl Jam himself, joining the band for some touring in 1991 before the release of its debut album, Ten. He can be seen in the video for “Alive.” Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell and bassist Ben Shepherd told us Cameron can step back into the lineup whenever he feels like it: (Cornell) “Whenever he wants to come out, he’s coming out. And he can change his mind, you know, and we can take out a…” (Shepherd) “We got another guy with the same initials playing drums for us, so it makes it really easy.” (Cornell) “I’m not really sure what his schedule is. For sure though, when we start working on whatever our next record will be, and any decision we make, he’s an absolute member of the band, you know.”….Today, The Pretty Reckless finally drop their album, Going To Hell. Check out the acoustic performance Taylor Momsen and Ben Phillips did in the hardDriveRadio studios on our home page…..And keep an eye out on the hardDriveRadio YouTube channel for a very candid interview I did with Korn. We talked about their upcoming 20th anniversary and some pretty crazy memories from the entire band….Here’s some tv news I want to share: In case you haven’t heard, Game of Thrones is coming back April 6th on HBO . Can not wait! And the next season of American Horror Story will have a carnival setting that takes place in the 1950’s! OOOOhhh I can see it now: Scary Clowns! Be listening for both for the week of Mar 31. Three Days Grace will be our Featured Artist of the Week and Adelitas will be in the Nu 2 U Tuesday segment on hardDrive XL…..Corey Taylor of Stone Sour and Slipknot will be roasted by Revolver and Guitar World mags in Columbus the night before Rock On The Range. The Roast usually is out in LA, but this year, it will take place in Columbus! Cool!….Chevelle has posted a new tune off their La Gargola album, which will be available on April 1st. Check it out here and look for Chevelle on tour starting April 4th with Middle Class Rut & Oh Brother! (thanks Blabbermouth!)…. Blabbermouth also recapped an exclusive VIP listening party for the Ronnie James Dio tribute album This Is Your Life and awards gala was held last night (Monday, March 17) at the Avalon in Hollywood, CA. Fans got to hear the entire album two weeks before they could buy it and there were very special live performances by members of Halestorm, Corey Taylor, Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, Loaded, Walking Papers), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dio Disciples), Oni Logan (Lynch Mob, Dio Disciples), Jimmy Bain (Dio, Rainbow), Rowan Robertson (Dio), Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake) and many other special surprise guests all performing their renditions of Ronnie‘s songs. Watch a bad mofo version of Dio’s “Stand Up & Shout” here. I think you will recognize some faces! And hit Blabbermouth for more…..And finally, if that wasn’t metal enough, here is the new Avatar video for the title track from their new album, Hail The Apocalypse. Love the silent movie concept their drummer John Alfredsson came up with! The album drops May 13th, the first radio single will be “Bloody Angel.” Have a killer day!
