This just in…..Soundgarden are making a big announcement on Monday! Is it something to do with the 20th Anniversary of Superunknown? Well, we’ll know on Monday!….My friends Godsmack are working in the studio with producer Dave Fortman on the follow up to 2010’s Oracle album. Dave is best known for this stuff with Mudvayne, Slipknot and Evanescence. Blabbermouth says frontman Sully Erna tweeted on Thursday (Mar 13th), “Pre-production is finally over! We’ve officially started recording the new album! And it is going to be one badass record! Just sayin’ . . . ” He later added: “Off to the studio! Vocals start today. Rock and roll better watch out. ‘Cuz here we come! AGAIN.” Drummer Shannon Larkin recently said the band had “so many cool new tunes” that it was going to be hard to narrow the list down for the final album, adding, “I know it’s been awhile since you’ve heard from us, but we will make it worth your wait!” So I’m guessing a fall release will be in order here. 2014 shaping up, again, to be a killer year for NEW ROCK!….News on another heavy hitter from Pulse of Radio, they said the San Francisco Giants‘ second annual Metallica Night will be held on May 16th when the Giants play the Miami Marlins at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Fans can buy ticket packages that include exclusive merchandise and benefit a good cause in addition to a night of baseball and Metallica festivities. The band said in a statement, “We had such an amazing time last year supporting our local team and hanging at the yard that we jumped at the chance to do it all again . . . we’ll be on hand to kick it off with the National Anthem and first pitch, joining the orange and black faithful for the rest of the evening for all kinds of Metalli-fun and games.” A special event ticket package is available that includes a ticket, an exclusive Metallica/Giants-themed inflatable guitar and a Metallica/Giants-themed guitar pick tin. Partial proceeds from every ticket sold will benefit the Bay Area Chapter of Little Kids Rock. At last year’s Metallica night, drummer Lars Ulrich threw out the first pitch while guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett performed the National Anthem. Metallica is reportedly at work on its 10th studio album, but will take a break next week for a South American tour on which the band will play an all-request set list every night, along with one new song. A new post at the band’s Facebook page said that they were “working out the kinks” in a new song to have it road-ready. And apparently it will be ready this weekend to perform Sunday night during the opening night of their South American two week tour that starts in Bogota, Colombia!…Lots of birthdays this weekend! Saturday, Joe “Mr” Hahn, DJ and more for Linkin Park, turns 37. Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 is 42. Sunday, Wolfgang “Wolfie” Van Halen is 23, Nancy Wilson of Heart is 60 and Flavor Flav of Public Enemy turns 55!
