“It ain’t over till it’s over.” “It’s déjà vu all over again.” “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” “You can’t hit and think at the same time.” “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.” We’ll never forget you, Yogi Berra. And how ironic you pass away (9/22/15) on the same day you joined the Yankees on 9/22/46. Long live and God bless Number 8.
The Pulse Of Radio reports Rob Zombie will executive produce and direct a new half-hour horror comedy series called Trapped in development for the Starz cable network. According to Deadline, Zombie is working in collaboration with actress Mila Kunis and her production company, Orchard Farm Productions, with Kunis also on board as executive producer. Created and written by Joey Slamon, Trapped takes places over a single night in the home of a wealthy family under attack by a murderous cult.
It makes sense for Zombie to follow other filmmakers into television. He told us not long ago getting any movie project off the ground is much tougher than a lot of fans realize: “For every movie I’ve gotten made, there’s been five movies in between that I put a lot of work into that never happened. But people only see the ones that happen, so they don’t know, so they think, ‘Oh, every time you want to make a movie, it just happens, because you want it to.’ But it just doesn’t work that way, you know, it’s really hard getting things made and sometimes you spend a lot of time and a lot of money working on these things and they just don’t happen.”
Zombie has been busy putting the finishing touches on his latest feature film, a horror tale called 31. The movie was financed largely through crowdfunding and will be released sometime early in 2016. The rocker-director’s next feature film is slated to be an adaptation of a book about the last years in the life of Groucho Marx, told by a young Marx Brothers fan who spent those years as his personal secretary and archivist.
Speaking of movies, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, in association with Passion Pictures, has announced the official multi-platform release of the documentaryJaco, on which Trujillo has been laboring as executive producer for several years. Directed by Paul Marchand and Stephen Kijak, the film chronicles the brief but extraordinary life of the great American musician, composer and electric bass pioneer Jaco Pastorius. The film will be available via DVD/Blu-ray, VOD, streaming services, and digital download on Friday, November 27th.
Trujillo told us what made Jaco’s playing and musical style so special and influential: “Jaco, you know, you could say he had a very customized, unique sound that had beauty and growl and edge to it, not to mention he was extremely funky. So his groove was almost uncanny. It was like, ‘Is this guy an alien?’ ‘Cause he’s such a pocket groove player but he’s got so much to say and is pretty unique in his style and what he did with that.“
I don’t know what you think about politics, but if you know David Draiman of Disturbed, you know he’s vocal on more than just the lyrics of his band’s music! Pulse also reporting on a Loudwire item on David. where he gave his thoughts on the 2016 U.S. presidential race. “I think it’s all entertainment. I don’t know how you can take any of these guys seriously. You know, they’re all full of s**t — every last one of ’em.”
Draiman continued, “Every politician, in order to be a politician, has to be adept at the art of one and one thing only, and that is lying. Okay? They’re all in bed with all the same power brokers. It doesn’t change from presidency to presidency . . . They all get married to all the same corporations. They’re all in the pocket of all the same people who wield the power to begin with. So if anybody has any delusions of grandeur that anything is really going to change from one president to the next, you’re fooling yourself.” Draiman added, “Change has to come from a much larger portion of society, whether it’s Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton or that idiot with the fake hairpiece. It really doesn’t make much of a difference to me.” He concluded, “I hate all politicians equally. I think they’re all full of s**t. So I think that it is what it is. I just stand back and watch with my popcorn and enjoy the entertainment, ’cause I can’t take it seriously.”
While he’s always been outspoken about his political views, Draiman told us a while back he prefers to keep his opinions out of Disturbed’s live show: “I’m no one to preach, and that’s not why I go up there. You know, to encourage a little bit of patriotism, to remember the troops, to do things like that, that’s synonymous with who we are and what we do. To get into things a little bit more than just opinion-based, that are maybe a little bit more political, it’s not really the place, I feel, of a frontman to do during the show.” Draiman recently decided to quit Twitter and other social media outlets after several years of dealing with contentious trolls who have harassed him about some of his political stances.
