Man, yesterday was amazing! I got to see a screening of Led Zeppelin‘s “Celebration Day,” the 2-hour reunion concert filmed at the O2 Arena in London Dec 10, 2007. One amazing night for Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant and Jason Bonham, son of original Zep drummer John. Despite all the funny faces Page makes throughout the show, the event was just that: an event! And I IMPLORE you good fans of rock music, if you always dreamed of seeing Led Zeppelin, this is your chance to see them on the BIG SCREEN on Oct 17th when “Celebration Day” hits cinemas worldwide for one day only. Just go. You’ll thank me later. And what is it about guitarists and the faces they make?? Mark Tremonti is the same way. It’s like they’re vocally playing as well, but the faces are sometimes comical. (Many chuckles in the audience during the screening, I must say.) And it was kind of weird, sitting in a dark theater, watching a concert film and clapping and cheering all the way through! The dude in the Zeppelin t-shirt next to me shouted “Yeah!” after every song. Got a little tedious to say the least! HA! After the screening at NYC’s Museum of Modern Art screening room, we were ushered through the Quay Brothers exhibit to the auditorium where the press conference with all four fellas took place. Yours truly got to ask the second question from the audience. I dunno if the press conference is available on YouTube yet, but you can listen to it HERE! I had to ask this, because the reunion would never have occurred if it hadn’t been for Atlantic Records’ Ahmet Ertegun, the late chairman of the label and the man who signed the band. Great stories, and I could add some, but not here! ;)….In other news, very happy for Dead Sara, who will be opening for Muse Feb 22-Mar 10. That is so huge for them!….Pulse of Radio reports Rage Against The Machine‘s self-titled 1992 debut album will be reissued in a 20th anniversary edition on November 27th, according to Antiquiet. The set, titled Rage Against The Machine XX, will come out in three versions: a regular single disc, a two-CD/one-DVD package, and a deluxe box set featuring the CDs, two DVDs, the album on vinyl picture disc, plus a 40-page booklet and a double-sided poster. The first CD will feature three hard-to-find B-sides along with the original album, while the second CD will contain the original Rage Against the Machine demo tape, which was recorded in 1991 and sold for $5 at the merch table at the band’s earliest gigs. This marks the first time that the entire demo tape — which helped land the group their record deal with Sony — will get a full official release. The first DVD will contain Rage Against The Machine’s free concert in Finsbury Park on June 2010, which was a “thank you” to U.K. fans for making ‘Killing in the Name’ the U.K.’s Number One single during Christmas Week 2009. Also included are music videos and live concert performance clips. The second DVD will feature Rage’s first public performance ever at Cal State North Ridge in October 1991, plus various rare concert clips from the band’s first couple of years of touring. Rage Against The Machine disbanded in 2000 but reunited in 2007 and has played sporadic live shows ever since. Summer 2011’s L.A. Rising festival was Rage Against The Machine’s last live appearance to date….Bummer for Zombie fans in Little Rock! Rob Zombie called off their scheduled outdoor show there over the weekend after his crew raised safety concerns over weather conditions. He decided not to proceed after a series of high profile stage collapses in recent years involving acts like Radiohead and Cheap Trick. Zombie said, “It’s a drag. We drove all night to play the show only to find we couldn’t. You just have to go on the recommendations of your crew — they’re trying to rig thousands of pounds of equipment. The wind was blowing and they had to keep stopping, and they came to the conclusion it’s just not safe.” Tickets were refunded where purchased….American Music Awards announced their nominees and in the category of Favorite Alternative Artist, the nominees are: (drum roll please) The Black Keys, Gotye, Linkin Park….Happy 58th to Van Halen’s David Lee Roth.
