What day is it? HUMP DAY! (Sorry, I had to!)….Well, the big news today is the return of Faith No More! The band has announced its long-awaited reunion album, Sol Invictus, will be released on May 19th through the band’s own Reclamation Recordings imprint, with distribution via singer Mike Patton‘s Ipecac Recordings. The disc will be the first set of all-new Faith No More material since 1997’s Album Of The Year and the first since the band ended its 12-year hiatus in 2009. Bassist and producer Bill Gould said, “I think what we’re doing reflects where we’ve gone since we made our last record as Faith No More. I think this kicks things up a notch . . . Everything we do, with our chemistry, the way we play; it’s always going to sound like us. It’s just what we do, that makes us feel good.” Songs on the 10-track set include the title cut, “Superhero,” “Sunny Side Up,” “Separation Anxiety,” “Cone Of Shame,” “Rise Of The Fall,” “Black Friday,” “Motherf**ker,” “Matador” and “From The Dead.” “Mother**ker” was released late last year as a teaser for the new disc. “Superhero” will be released as a limited edition seven-inch single on March 17th, followed by a digital version on March 31st. Gould also said, “When we split up, we explored what we could do on our own. During that time, we each developed what was a natural part of ourselves. Now, coming back, we have a wider perspective so we can do things we didn’t even think of back in the day.” Faith No More has also confirmed its first North American shows since 2010 with a spring outing kicking off on April 15th in Vancouver. We are hoping the band will drop by the hardDriveRadio studios when they come to NYC in mid-May. Check out their recent performance of “Superhero” at Amoeba Records in LA……My boys Of Mice & Men have announced a new tour that surrounds the U.S. festival dates. Find them all in Road Rage. Very proud of what they accomplished in the past year and looking forward to speaking with Austin Carlile soon. The band just released the new music video for “Broken Generation.” Watch it here…Pulse Of Radio is also reporting on these stories today: Tool drummer Danny Carey is teaming with Mastodon singer-guitarist Brent Hinds and members of the bands Off! and Burning Brides in a new “supergroup” called Legend of the Seagullmen. According to Rolling Stone, the hard rock act has been recording with Jonah Hex film director Jimmy Hayward serving as producer. Two songs, “Battle of the Deep-Sea Diver” and “Ships Wreck,” are streaming and available for free download on the band’s website. Carey told us a while back he always thought doing projects outside of Tool had its benefits: “We just kind of look at it as going off on sabbatical, I think, pretty much, and then when we come back from doing our projects like this, it gives us more to offer into the Tool pot. It all feeds off of each other.” The retro-sounding Seagullmen are actually the brainchild of three brothers, Frank, Chris and David Dreyer, who have put on theatrical concerts and made movies about the band’s long-running legend in recent years. Carey apparently has time on his hands to work on the project while Tool continues to slowly put together its long-awaited new studio album. In other news about musicians veering off into side projects while their main bands drag their heels, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo has joined forces with drummer Rick Smith from underground metal act Torche in a new, yet-to-be-named musical venture. The group also includes members of the band Bleach Everything and little else is known about it at this point. The band has recorded an album’s worth of material, with plans to mix it in May and release it sometime after that. Trujillo’s other group, Metallica, is reportedly at work on its 10th studio album, although do not expect it til 2016. Hmmm, Same year as the 20th Anniversary of the weekend edition of hardDrive. Hmmmm. May have to make some phone calls…. Joey Castillo, longtime drummer for Queens of the Stone Age, has joined Scott Weiland‘s band The Wildabouts for their upcoming tour…..WJJO just told me about a killer festival they are doing in May. Can’t say who, but the bill is killer! And in July, Razor 94.7 and Rock 92.7 also have something unbelievable brewing for their big festivals. Mums the word, but our Wisconsin listeners are gonna be VERY HAPPY!…..And I think some of us are very upset to hear Jon Stewart of the Daily Show has announced he is leaving the show after 16 years. SAY IT AIN’T SO! What a great loss for us who love a smart show that is so entertaining. His contract is up in September and he feels he’s accomplished everything he can on the show and wants to spend more time with his family. I know my boyfriend feels like he is losing a close friend (he records and watches it every day!) And I am also surprised at NBC for suspending Brian Williams for 6 months without pay! If they did that in radio to jocks who didn’t tell the entire truth about their life experiences, there would be NO DJ’s on the air anywhere! Just sayin’! Have a great day and stay warm.
