Well, tomorrow a BIG announcement coming right here. So do NOT miss it!
Today, Lou Brutus is on the hotLine with Greg Tribbett of Audiotopsy. They have a new album, Natural Causes, set for Oct 02, and a new track, “The Calling,” out. Sounds completely different from what you’d expect. Looking forward to hearing lots from Mr Tribbett on this new effort with Mudvayne drummer Matt McDonough, frontman Billy Keeton, formerly of Florida-based Skrape and bassist Perry Stern.
Speaking of Lou Brutus, his latest video interview with Corey Taylor is now posted on the hardDriveRadio YouTube Channel. A must watch here!
The Pulse Of Radio brings us this new Foo Fighters item. And you know I have to share with it comes to this band, right? Frontman Dave Grohl has been making a little news at each stop on the band’s current North American tour, and today’s item comes from the band’s recent show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This time, Grohl called out bands who play two hours or less onstage, telling the audience, “You don’t want one of those little hour and a half long shows do you? You don’t want that s**t. All of those new bands that play those little two-hour concerts, you don’t want that s**t. Two hours and 15, I don’t think is enough. Two and a half hours, does that sound okay? That’s not enough is it?”
Grohl added, “Here’s our f**king problem. We’ve been a band for 20 f**king years, we have a lot of f**king songs, and then add my big mouth on top of that, and we’re going to be here all night.” Foo Fighters are known for regularly playing three-hour concerts, but drummer Taylor Hawkins admitted a while back they can be a challenge: “It’s a lot. I don’t know how long we can keep that up. We’ll see. I don’t know how long Dave’s gonna be able to sing for three hours every night when we get onstage. It’s awesome and it’s fun and it’s the macho trip a little bit, and people get their money’s worth, that’s for damn sure.“
Grohl is currently playing shows on his massive light-up throne while his broken leg heals, but recently told Billboard he’s reluctant to give up the throne once he’s fully recovered. He explained, “It’s become the star of the show. Do I stop using it when I can just stand there? Or do I stop using it when I can jump and run around like I used to or do I keep it for f**king ever? It has a drink holder.” The throne and supporting act Foo Fighters next play in Noblesville, IN tomorrow night (Aug 27th).
OK, summer is nearly over, but there is still time for another good book. How about this one? A new book on the making of Metallica‘s 1991 self-titled fifth album, also known as “the Black Album,” will be published by Bloomsbury Publishers on Sep 24th as part of its much-celebrated and acclaimed 33 1/3 series. Author David Masciotra said, “The book is a must-read for Metallica, metal, and hard rock fans, as I will give up close and personal details, received personally from the band, into the making of ‘the Black Album,’ and I will examine the importance of Metallica’s music, along with the philosophical depth it possesses.” Masciotra added that he has “already interviewed the principal players in the making of the album, including current members of Metallica —James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett, former bassist Jason Newsted, and Metallica’s former producer, Bob Rock.” An excerpt from the book can be found at 333sound.com.
OK, so this is why NEVER SAY NEVER! Pulse commented today since Slash has revealed he and former Guns N’ Roses bandmate Axl Rose are friends again after nearly 20 years of estrangement, you can expect a steady stream of rumors about where and when the seemingly inevitable Guns N’ Roses reunion tour will take place. The first has now popped up via Alternative Nation, which reports that a club owner in Australia has received some intel. The owner, James Young, told Triple M Radio, “I heard the most amazing rumor this week, from a very well informed heavy hitter in the Australian music industry, giving me the name of the headline act for Soundwave (festival) next year . . . So what mega band could it be? Well I have heard ‘fantasized’ on Wednesday night that it will be: Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, Slash and Axl Rose, the reformation of the original 1987 “Appetite For Destruction” Guns N’ Roses lineup.” O M G!!!!! Well, if THAT happens, I may have to cash in my frequent flyer miles and get my butt there! Soundwave is an annual touring rock and pop festival that travels around Australia and New Zealand during those countries’ summer months in January and February.
Slash confirmed last Friday (Aug 21st) in a Swedish TV interview that he and Axl were on friendly terms again, saying, “It was probably way overdue, you know. But it’s . . . you know, it’s very cool at this point . . . some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long.” Asked if the thawing of his friendship with Axl could lead to a reunion of the band’s classic lineup, Slash said: “Oh, I couldn’t answer that one,” before quickly changing the subject. I mean, this would be so contrary to everything he has done to establish himself as his own recording artist, and he’s done an excellent job of it. The past few Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators albums have been stellar efforts and created a huge fan base around the world. Yet Slash told us a while back why he would be open to a reunion when the whole Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame brewhaha came about: “It would be worth doing for the fans. The fans would be the greatest thing about it because I think they really deserve it — I think they got the short end of the stick on the whole thing. But the hurdles that one would have to jump in order to make that happen are insurmountable, as far as I can say right at this moment. But I can’t speak, you know, for the future to the point of going, ‘It’ll never happen,’ ’cause I think I would sound sort of ignorant.” Three original members of the band, including Slash, McKagan and Adler, showed up, but Axl and guitarist Izzy Stradlin were no-shows. At the time Slash said in several interviews that the Hall of Fame ceremony gave him a sense of “closure.” Guns N’ Roses recently parted ways with guitarists DJ Ashba and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal. Hmmmm. Would they do it for the fans? I wonder. I’m pretty sure I know the answer.
Five Finger Death Punch’s Jeremy Spencer, Chris Kael and Jason Hook did a little preview of Got Your Six. Check it out here. (Thanks Louder Noise)
And finally today, here’s a post from Blabbermouth: “True friends stab you in the front,” proclaims Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes on the band’s just-released new track, “True Friends”. Featured on the band’s highly anticipated fifth studio album, That’s The Spirit, “True Friends” is available everywhere, including iTunes. Watch the track’s lyric video below. That’s The Spirit, the band’s 5th studio album and Columbia Records debut, will be released Friday, Sep 11.
That’s The Spirit is an 11-track, exhilarating ride bursting with huge riffs, soaring vocals and stadium filling monster tracks. The album, which lead singer Oli Sykes recently told NME is “a celebration of depression,” was recorded this spring in Santorini, Greece at Black Rock Studios, which the band discovered by Googling “world’s most amazing studios.” That’s The Spirit was mixed in London, mastered in New York and produced by Sykes and the band’s Jordan Fish.
