Helicopters buzzing around my hood. I feel like I’m back in LA. Is some perp running around the cops are looking for? Armed robbers? Car thieft? Turns out, there is a coyote siting in Riverside Park here in Manhattan. COYOTES IN UPPER NYC! Something is wrong here….OK, what is this? Can you tell? It’s Teenage Time Killers, an all-star punk-metal mind-blowing ensemble put together by Reed Mullin of Corrosion of Conformity, that includes, in no particular order, Dave Grohl on bass, Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) on vocals (on that tune “Hung Out To Dry.”) There are 20 songs, one, “Egobomb,” has Corey “The Ginger Ninja” Taylor on vocals, one has Mike Skiba of Blink 182 on vocals on “Barrio”, and the band has various rotating members from Foo Fighter Pat Smear to members of the Dead Kennedys, Queens Of The Stone Age, Clutch, Prong, Fear and more (see photo above.) The album is titled Greatest Hits. Volume Oneand is set for a July 31st release via Rise Records, the same fine folks who give you Of Mice & Men and others….I heard this tune in the documentary, but didn’t know the song “leaked” on the net! A cover of the Beatles‘ “And I Love Her” by late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, previously thought lost, has resurfaced and briefly streamed online before Universal Music — which owns Nirvana’s catalog — had it pulled down. The raw acoustic track was discovered in the vast archives of previously unreleased audio and video material left behind by Cobain, which were accessed by filmmaker Brett Morgen for his new documentary on the iconic musician, Montage Of Heck. Another previously unheard Cobain recording — an original 12-minute song — also appears in the film, which is in limited theatrical release now and will premiere on HBO on May 4th. Although it’s difficult to ascertain how Cobain’s music might have evolved had he lived, Nirvana biographer Charles R. Cross speculated on what direction Cobain’s career might have taken: “Towards the end of his life, Kurt was already talking about moving his musical sound away, he said, from quote ‘screaming’ and more towards blues-based acoustic music. My guess is that he would be crafting albums that were of a more acoustic nature, that maybe reflected Americana. You know, he also was very interested in art, so I could have seen him, you know, with a career developing that more.” Montage Of Heck relies less on straight documentary reporting and is constructed more like a collage of previously unseen home movies, interviews, animation, photographs and other artifacts, all accompanied by Cobain’s music. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, with Collider calling it “a deeply intimate look at Cobain’s life that really takes you inside his head, revealing the joy, depression, anger, and immense creativity that populated his psyche.” Be sure to set your DVR for this! I’ll be interviewing the director tomorrow…Going to be speaking with Stone Temple Pilots on Monday on their bus. Looking forward! Love those guys. They have a single coming in June and album in the fall. They’re currently doing a short tour that will include stops in Chicago (tonight), Silver Spring, MD (DC), Montclair, NJ, NYC, Boston & Philly. Got questions? Send them to me on the app or email link on the home page….Speaking of STP, their FORMER singer Scott Weiland appears in a new band, Art of Anarchy. The band includes Disturbed bassist John Moyer and Bumblefoot (Ron Thal) from Guns N’ Roses. Check out their video for “Til The Dust Is Gone” here…..Finally today, I saw this stupid thing on Facebook where people are sucking their lips into small jars in effort to “plump” them up. Well, this is VERY BAD! A dermatologic surgeon explained to Seventeen magazine, “The new trend in trying to DIY lip plumping is quite concerning. Not only can significant pain, swelling, and bruising result from these suction techniques, but there is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts.” A cosmetic surgeon told Metro U.K., “I can definitely say that this would be dangerous even just to try it, and especially somebody does it more than once. The lips turn blue because blood fills up and they could easily become infected and lose all sensation. It is a really dangerous stunt and I’d advise strongly against anybody trying it.”….People who aren’t trying to suck their lips into small jars to plump them up who are celebrating birthdays include: Shavo Odadjian of System Of A Down is 41 and celebrating with his band in Armenia where they’ll be performing tomorrow. And Jack Nicholson is 78. He wouldn’t look good with those fat lips!
