Tax Day! If you don’t have it postmarked by midnight, you know the drill. I filed so early, I already spent the return! LOL….Last night, got to share some great time with friends and industry-ites watching The Temperance Movement. I got to introduce Paul Sayer, one of the band’s guitarists, to David Fricke from Rolling Stone. Always gratifying to help bands along. And always good to see my ole friend David-we worked together back in the 80’s. Anyhow, I implore you to go see them when they come to town. It’s a fun, ‘let’s dance and smile’ night. And in the world of rock, it’s a break from the pit and you don’t go home with your ears ringing…..In the news today from Pulse Of Radio, I am excited for my friends from Canada. Theory Of A Deadman is preparing to release a new EP on April 28th titled Angel Acoustic. The disc will feature unplugged versions of Theory favorites “The One,” “Not Meant To Be” and “Santa Monica,” along with a cover of Tove Lo‘s pop hit “Habits (Stay High)” and an acoustic version of the band’s current single, “Angel,” which has cracked the Top 10 at Active Rock radio. Theory frontman Tyler Connolly told us not long ago that picking singles is always a mysterious process: “Before you make the record, you’re like, ‘Oh, this song’s my favorite, this song’s gonna be awesome,’ and then you’ve got these other songs, you’re like, you have fun playing them but you’re like, ‘I don’t see this being a single, or I don’t think a lot of people are gonna get into this.’ But all of a sudden your label’s like, ‘We want to release this as a single,’ and you’re like, ‘What, really?’” Fans who pre-order the EP at iTunes beginning April 21st will receive “Habits” as an instant download. “Angel” is taken from Theory’s fifth album, Savages, which also features the singles “Drown” and the title track. The band plays the Biloxi Crawfish Music Festival with WCPR in Mississippi this Saturday (April 18th) and will tour the U.S. later this summer….Regarding that story from yesterday on the brother of the producer of Temple Of The Dog not turning over the master tapes to A&M Records, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell said Tuesday the co-founder of Seattle’s London Bridge Studios has no legitimate claim to own the master tapes of the self-titled 1991 Temple Of The Dog album, which Cornell and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron recorded with members of Pearl Jam in 1990. Cornell sided with A&M Records, which says it bought the tapes in 1993, against Rajan Parashar, whose brother Rick produced the disc. According to the Associated Press, Cornell said, “A&M Records paid for the recordings and the use of the studio,” adding that for Parashar “to pretend he has a right to keep the recordings makes no more sense than the owner of a laundromat claiming he owns the clothes you washed in his washing machine.” A&M has sued Rajan Parashar in order to get him to turn the tapes over. The studio owner’s attorney insists the tapes belong to Rajan, who says he was not a participant in the 1993 deal between his brother and the label. Rick Parashar died last year. There’s been no reason given for why A&M suddenly wants the tapes, but it’s been speculated that the label intends to remaster the record for a 25th anniversary deluxe reissue next year. The Temple Of The Dog album was recorded in 15 days as a tribute to late Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood. Cornell and Wood were roommates, while surviving Mother Love Bone members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard formed the nucleus of Pearl Jam….You might not be their fans, but I appreciate their message here. Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard joined members of Mumford & Sons in blasting Tidal, the new streaming service owned by Jay-Z and a number of other superstar artists. Speaking with The Daily Beast, Gibbard questioned the true intentions of the service’s millionaire owners and whether it could help smaller, independent artists. He explained, “I think they totally blew it by bringing out a bunch of millionaires and billionaires and propping them up onstage and then having them all complain about not being paid.” Gibbard added, “There was a wonderful opportunity squandered to highlight what this service would mean for artists who are struggling and to make a plea to people’s hearts and pocketbooks to pay a little more for this service that was going to pay these artists a more reasonable streaming rate. And they didn’t do it..” Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford also told The Daily Beast, “I think smaller bands should get paid more for it, too. Bigger bands have other ways of making money, so I don’t think you can complain. A band of our size shouldn’t be complaining. And when they say it’s artist-owned, it’s owned by those rich, wealthy artists.” Mumford keyboardist/banjo player WInston Marshall called Tidal owners “new school f**cking plutocrats,” adding, “What I’m not into is the tribalistic aspect of it — people trying to corner bits of the market, and put their face on it. That’s just commercial bulls**t.” Wow! I think I tend to agree here. Do you use a streaming service? If so, which one? Tell us on our Interact Live section of the new hardDriveRadio App or send it in via email and I’ll ask Lou Brutus if he’ll talk about it on the air, too!… Blabbermouth reports Halestorm has just released a song online called “Unapologetic,” which can be found as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of the group’s new album, Into The Wild Life.
