October 11, 1994. First Korn album, Korn, is released. hardDrive wasn’t around just yet, and evolved from a show I was producing at the time called Pure Concrete. Some of you out there may remember that. Anyhow, we played Korn’s “Blind.” 20 years ago. Crazy I have known those guys all these years. Actually I didn’t get to know Jonathan ’til maybe 4 years later before a party the band was throwing for Orgy (at the time, Korn had a label called Elementree and they signed Orgy and Deadsy.) Before the show and party at Don Hill’s around the corner was a little Tribeca pub called Ear Inn (now gone.) JD was sitting at the bar with his bodyguard at the time, Loc, having a ginger ale. He was a mess. Shaking like a leaf, detoxing from meds and alcohol. I felt sorry for him. Man, how times have changed. He’s doing so great now. He’s the best ever. And I can’t wait for the next Korn record they are in the early stages of the writing process for. So meantime, let’s go back to ’94. Actually, January ’95, here’s Korn’s first music video for “Blind.” Look how young and tattoo-free most of them were! LOL…Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo, Slash, Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz were among the dozens of celebrities who attended pro skater Tony Hawk‘s 11th annual Stand Up For Skateparks benefit on Sunday (Sep 21st) at Green Acres Estate in Beverly Hills, CA. Other attendees included Erik Estrada, Eve, David Hasselhoff, Joaquin Phoenix, Verne Troyer and many more, along witih pro-skaters and BMX riders. The event concluded with Hawk and other top skate and BMX pros performing an all-star demo on Hawk’s personal ramp. Stand Up For Skateparks is described as “a family-friendly action-sports carnival with games, food, and live and silent auctions with one-of-a-kind items and experiences.” Auction items included celebrity experiences with Robert Trujillo and director Jon Favreau, a guitar signed by Slash, and trips to Napa, Dubai, and other spots. The event raised more than $850,000, with proceeds going to the Tony Hawk Foundation. The Foundaton’s mission is the creation of free, quality, public skateparks in low-income communities throughout the U.S., and internationally, with programs that enrich the lives of youth through skateboarding. More than 400 parks in 50 states receive funding from the Tony Hawk Foundation! Cool stuff! (Pulse of Radio)…Nine Inch Nails main man Trent Reznor has posted an online preview of music from the score to Gone Girl, which he composed with longtime collaborator Atticus Ross. This is the third time the pair have scored a movie for director David Fincher, following The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and their Oscar-winning work on The Social Network. The movie stars Ben Affleck and opens on October 3rd. (Antiquiet)…Celebrity lookalikes Chad Smith and Will Ferrell teamed up for another musical event last Friday night (Sep 19th), although this time the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer and the Anchorman star were not competing in a “drum-off.” The pair took part in a jam of the Rolling Stones‘ “Honky Tonk Women” along with Duff McKagan and Pearl Jam‘s Mike McCready at the Cancer For College charity event in Seattle, Washington. Ferrell, who hosted the event, picked Cancer For College as his charity of choice at his and Smith’s battle on The Tonight Show earlier this year. (Blabbermouth)….Bruce Springsteen is 65 today.
