Last night, I capped off an amazingly busy day with an equally amazing hang and dinner with Pop Evil, who are celebrating their 4th consecutive number ONE rock radio single with “Footsteps.” And I was talking to Leigh Kakaty about something he had said to Lou Brutus about Eddie Vedder listening to his music the band recorded up in Seattle, but I wanted to know more about how that happened! Did he go to the band’s recording studio while they were there in Seattle or what?
Well, not only did the band get an invite to Eddie’s home, but they got a once in a lifetime experience for an avid Pearl Jam fan to see all things Eddie Vedder. I can’t go into too many details, but it involved playing pool, basketball and seeing all of Eddie’s memorablia, from plaques, pictures and his vast sports memorablia collection. Lou will get the whole story from Leigh this weekend at Sonic Boom!
Yesterday, Paulie Walnuts and I were non-stop in the studios with visits from Shinedown’s Zach Myers and Brent Smith, Like A Storm‘s the Brooks Brothers Matt, Kent, Chris and Zack Wood, and Corey Beaulieu, Paolo Gregoletto and Matt Kiichi Heafy of Trivium. Look for video interviews from Shinedown and Trivium as well as an acoustic performance from Like A Storm! Good stuff in store for you both on air and on line here from hardDriveRadio!
Meanwhile, The Pulse Of Radio reports Foo Fighters were supposed to perform on Sunday night’s (Sep 20th) Emmy Awards broadcast, but Dave Grohl says they were “kicked off” the show by the Fox network, which telecast the ceremony. Spotted on Sunday night out in Los Angeles by TMZ, Grohl said, “We were supposed to play on the Emmys, and we were going to play on the Emmys, and then we got kicked off.”
A rep for Grohl told TMZ the band was set to become the first rock band to ever play the Emmys, but then explained, “Fox then refused to allow the band to play a full song from the Emmy-winning Sonic Highways.” Fox reportedly wanted the band to play half of a song from Sonic Highways and then play part of their hit song “Learn to Fly,” but Grohl and the band refused. (This is hilarious, a fan, Jimijams, posted this online: “Whenever I listen to music, I listen to half the song and that’s about that.”)
Reps for both the Emmys and Fox did not issue any comments on the matter at press time. The HBO documentary series Sonic Highways picked up Emmys for Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Sound Mixing in the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Sep 12th, but lost in the categories of Outstanding Informational Series or and Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming.
And, the band was caught on camera in Anaheim, CA on Friday night (Sep 18th) performing the Rush classic “Tom Sawyer” with new Yes vocalist Jon Davison. And last night at the Fabulous Forum in LA, Dave’s good friend Stevie Nicks and according to RollingStone.com, “her fellow sisters of the moon” Haim came out and they did “Stop Dragging My Heart Around,” and then “Gold Dust Woman.” Oh God, I love this band!
Tonight, Ghost kick off their North American Black To The Future Tour in Silver Spring, MD. A must-see tour! See Road Rage!
Finally today, Pulse reporting Asking Alexandria will open for Bullet For My Valentine on a North American tour slated to begin on Feb 2nd in San Diego. The “British Invasion” trek will come to a close on Mar 7th in Montreal. Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday (Sep 25th). Bullet For My Valentine will be out in support of its fifth studio album, Venom, while Asking Alexandria is working on a new record that will likely be out in time for the tour.
Bullet For My Valentine were last seen on these shores this past summer, when the Welsh act opened for Slipknot. Asking Alexandria’s new album will be its first with new singer Denis Shaforostov aka Stoff, formerly of Ukranian metal act Make Me Famous. Shaforostov replaced original singer Danny Worsnop, who left Asking Alexandria last January to concentrate on his other group, We Are Harlot. Asking’s new song “I Won’t Give In” and Bullet’s “You Want A Battle, Here’s A War” can both be heard on the rock charts and hardDriveRadio! See the entire tour in Road Rage.
