Hello! Nice to wake up to new music from AC/DC! Out of the blue yesterday, I got a call from the Columbia Records rep, a fine gentleman, who told me AC/DC’s new single “Play Ball” was dropping at midnight! Needless to say, we are all stoked! Their album, Rock or Bust, is out on Dec 2nd. Be listening to tonight’s hardDrive XL with Lou Brutus for it! And fingers crossed, Angus Young and Brian Johnson will be in town next month to do a little chattin’ about it! I can NOT WAIT! Worked with AC/DC in the early days when they had just released their Powerage album. Bon Scott was still with them. They had a stop at the Calderone Theater in Long Island. The band was in the middle of their set. All guns blazing! I forgot what song it was, but I was standing in the back of the theater when Angus had stepped to the edge of the stage and was head-banging like he does even today. When all of sudden, unprovoked, a large man in the front row hoists what appears to be some sort of orange beverage into Angus’ face while he’s playing. WHAT?!!!! It was back in the day when there were no security guards flanking the front of the stage. I grabbed a nearby usher and we ran up. Fortunately, other audience members also grabbed the guy and he was thrown out. But did the band even stop playing for a second? Did Bon Scott stop singing as all this went down. Absolutely NOT! It was something else, lemme tell ya! That’s what I love about that band. No egos. No rock star divas. Just down to earth, salt of the earth boys who love what they do and do it well. And, as the old adage goes, the show must go on!…..And the Late Show with David Letterman will probably get some much needed ratings boost when our friends Foo Fighters set up residency there all next week. They plan to perform songs from their forthcoming Sonic Highways album right there on the Ed Sullivan stage. The HBO series of the same name debuts Friday, Oct 17th at 11 PM. The film chronicles the making of the album, which the band recorded at historic studios in eight different U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, New Orleans, Nashville and Austin. Each episode will document the recording of one song, as well as the musical history of the studio and the city in which it’s located. The series will feature interviews with artists like Dolly Parton, Slash, Cheap Trick‘s Rick Nielsen, LL Cool J, Macklemore and others, as well as non-musicians like President Barack Obama and record exec Clive Davis. The Sonic Highways album comes out Nov 11th (whoops, NOT Lou Brutus’ birthday as originally reported), with Grohl saying, “This album is instantly recognizable as a Foo Fighters record, but there’s something deeper and more musical to it.” Oh I wonder where the secret show will be???!!!! Here’s a clip from their last appearance on the Letterman show (I was in the audience for that one!)…Now we have the new hardDriveRadio App (available in iTunes and GOOGLE PLAY), and there are more cool things coming! Weezer releases its ninth studio album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, on Tuesday (Oct 7th). The band began streaming ther record at iTunes last week and has also previously issued four songs from the disc, including “Lonely,” “Cleopatra,” “The British Are Coming” and the official first single, “Back To The Shack,” which is a Top 10 hit at both Active and Modern Rock radio. Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo told us he finds the band’s body of work after two decades to be both satisfying and intimidating: [“As we get older, we have this growing canon of material that, it’s a part of our lives and it’s part of our shows and there’s no getting away from it, and it becomes more impressive as time goes on, and it’s harder and harder to add to it.” Everything Will Be Alright In The End was produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars, who worked with the band on their 1994 self-titled debut — the “blue album” — and their 2001 self-titled third effort, known as the “green album.” Weezer is also reissuing its 2010 collection of previously unreleased tunes, Death To False Metal, on limited edition 180-gram vinyl on November 11th. Weezer is currently on the road for a series of shows, some of which will feature performances of the new LP in its entirety. The band next plays on Saturday (October 11th) in Mexico City. And also out today, Memoirs Of A Madman, a new solo career retrospective from Ozzy Osbourne. (Watch the teaser here.) The CD collects 17 of Ozzy’s biggest solo hits and fan favorites, and is available as a single CD, two-LP set and two-LP picture disc set. The Memoirs two-disc DVD set includes classic music videos, unreleased and out-of-print live performances, and interviews from his solo career. Ozzy revealed last week Black Sabbath will record a new studio album in 2015 and head out on one final tour. Three of the band’s original members reunited in 2011 and released a new studio album, 13, last year.
