Dirt - Tuesday, Feb 26

Happy Tuesday, folks.  Head  aka Brian Welch, stopped by yesterday with his band, Love & Death.  We got to hang and chat about the record, the guys in his band,  and his excitement about rejoining Korn on their tour this spring and summer.  I pressed him to see if this also means he’d be in the studio with them, and he told me flat out no.  But hope springs eternal, doesn’t it?  Anyhow, excited for him and the new Love & Death single will be “Meltdown,” and I also love a track called “By the Way.”  Check out the album, Between Here and Lost, when you can. And be looking for a new video interview with Head in the coming weeks on the site….Metallica  unveiled the lineup for the 2nd annual Orion Music + More festival, which will take place this year at Belle Isle in Detroit on June 8th and 9th. Metallica will once again headline both days, while the more than 30 other acts appearing on the weekend will include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Deftones, the Silversun Pickups, Bassnectar, Gogol Bordello, Foals, Tomahawk, The Joy Formidable, The Bronx, Dropkick Murphys and more. Drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement, “Last year’s Orion Music + More Festival was hands down the highlight of the Metallica calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members. The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in ’13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train.”…Well, looks like there’s more reunions this summer.  Trent Reznor announced he’s putting together a band and dusting off nine inch nails to take it out on the road after a 4 year hiatus.  (Hmmm, must mean no soundtracks in his near future.)  He’s enlisted King Crimson’s Adrian Belew,  ex-Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery, Puscifer’s Josh Eustis, Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin.  Should be rather cool!….tool is reissuing a deluxe version of their first release, Opiate.  The 6-song EP is celebrating it’s 21st anniversary and the handcrafted package is limited to 5,000 copies and features art direction by guitarist Adam Jones along with illustrations and designs from several artists who have collaborated with Tool on the spectacular packaging for albums 10,000 Days and Lateralus. There will be five sets of 1,000 copies, with each set featuring a variation of the exterior graphics. Bonus items will include a new stereoscopic image for fans to use with their 3D glasses from the 10,000 Days packaging. Did you save yours?…Soundgarden has announced a second leg of their tour for  May, including a May 19th stop at Rock on the Range.  (Did I mention KORN  performs on Friday the 17th?)   See Road Rage for the new dates, as well as new dates for Stone Sour, who are taking In This Moment out with them on the Road To The Golden Gods Tour….New Nashville natives 3 Doors Down have set May 4th to do an entire acoustic performance at the War Memorial in their newly adopted city.  Tix go on sale March 1st and the show is sponsored by our friends at 102.9 The Buzz there in Music City!….Happy 44th to Tim Commerford, aka Simmering T,  of Rage Against the Machine.
