Dirt - Thursday, Nov 1st

All Saints Day!  And I’ll tell ya, we NEED all the saints to come to NY and NJ to help all the poor folks who lost everything in this storm!  And last night, Halloween was not the same here in NYC.  For the first time in decades, the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade was cancelled because lower Manhattan is still without power.  Only good news today is the subways and buses are FREE! But as smart as NY is, it’s also stupid!  To try to ease the gridlock seen yesterday (it was insane), the city has told folks driving into town from the burbs that you MUST have 3 people in your car or you will be turned away from all of the bridges!   So what is this doing? Causing HUGE lines of cars backing up all over the place and hours of endless waiting time because of the police check! Nuts, right?…Hit Soundgarden‘s official website to hear “Non-State Actor”!  I can not wait to hear the King Animal  album!  Boy, we sure missed these boys!   And we’ll be interviewing the band on Nov 11.   WOOHOO!….The Smashing Pumpkins’ show last night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY had to be cancelled since there was no public transportation to get fans there.  Some of the other regional shows have already been rescheduled.  See Road Rage….The bass guitar used by the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain which was smashed at the end of the iconic video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is going up for auction, according to Loudwire. Christie’s of London has the Japanese Zen-On guitar — or what’s left of it — going on the block on Nov 29th, where it is expected to sell for somewhere between $25,000 and $40,000. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic bought the 1960s instrument at a pawn shop, where he was looking for something cheap that he knew could be smashed in the video. The pieces of the bass were allegedly picked up and taken home by a teenager who appeared as an extra in the video.  The rest of the auction includes memorabilia from both music and film, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Indiana Jones movies and the James Bond series.  Read about the complete auction at http://tinyurl.com/bk73zhy Stone Sour‘s House of Bones & Gold-Pt 1 entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart at Number 7, one notch below their Audio Secrecy debut in 2010….Fans who are anticipating the release of the long-awaited Black Sabbath album  will have to wait some more! The original Fall release has been pushed back to April 2013….The Red Rocker’s Beach Bar and Grill was a casuality on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City in the wake of Storm Sandy, Sammy Hagar tweeted.  The place was completely wiped out….Look for Aerosmith tonight on Letterman, tomorrow morning on the Today show.  I am only sharing because I knew these boys when they were just getting signed to Columbia Records back in the early 70′s.  It’s truly a miracle they are even alive today! = ) ….Happiest of Birthdays today to Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who turns the Big 5-0.
