BRRRR….That’s all I can say! Brrr….Here’s the latest: From Pulse Of Radio: Godsmack singer Sully Erna and Marilyn Manson have both landed roles in a new movie called Street Level, with Erna also contributing music to the soundtrack. The film is expected out on Christmas Day and the writer, producer and director is David Labrava, best known for playing Happy on Sons Of Anarchy. This appears to be the same project Erna mentioned in an interview last year, when he said he was shooting a pilot for a new TV series along with Labrava and other Sons Of Anarchy cast members. It now seems that the project has been turned into a film, with a trailer also surfacing online. Erna’s other roles include a small part in the Martin Scorsese-produced Bleed For This and a lead role in the recent low-budget horror movie Army Of The Damned. Manson had a recurring role on Sons Of Anarchy and also appeared in the TV shows Californication and Eastbound And Down. His movie credits include the movies Lost Highway, Jawbreaker, Party Monster and Wrong Cops. Manson’s latest album, The Pale Emperor, came out last month. He starts a new round of North American tour dates on March 25th in Portland, OR. Godsmack is also hitting the road this spring for a mix of headlining and festival shows. After playing the Pot Of Gold festival in Tempe, AZ on March 17th, the band heads out again on April 17th for a run that will include stops at events like Fort Rock and Rock On The Range as well as solo headlining shows….Halestorm has released streaming audio of a new song called “Mayhem,” which appears on the band’s upcoming third album Into The Wild Life. Fans may recall the group tested this song a few times on the road last year, both in the U.S. and in England. Halestorm singer Lzzy Hale told us the new album was meant to bring the live Halestorm experience into the studio: “We kind of threw everything out the window on this record. We went with a new producer, we did it in a different city, we changed, you know, our whole process of recording. Basically we wanted to set a standard for this record, really, really trying to bridge the gap this time between what people see live and then what they hear in our recordings.” Into The Wild Life will be released in North America on April 7th and follows up Halestorm’s Grammy-winning 2012 sophomore effort, The Strange Case Of . . . . Halestorm is currently on the road in Europe and will begin a North American tour with The Pretty Reckless on April 22nd in Nashville….Poor Nickelback! They are always being picked on. But at least this pick is for a great cause! A man has pledged to take “the ultimate test of endurance” by listening to nothing but Canadian rock act Nickelback for a week. According to Consequence Of Sound, Jesse Carey launched his campaign to raise money for Charity: Water, an organization which builds water wells in developing countries. Carey’s initial goal was $10,000, but as of publication, he’s already surpassed $18,000. Carey discussed his initiative in a recent podcast that is available online. There have been a number of weird Nickelback-related news items in recent months, including two men getting arrested for saying the group’s name and a man starting a petition to have the quartet banned in England. Nickelback’s eighth studio album, No Fixed Address, arrived in stores last November and follows up the Canadian act’s 2011 effort Here And Now. The first single from the album, “Edge Of A Revolution,” recently topped the rock radio airplay chart. The latest single from the set is “Million Miles An Hour.” Frontman Chad Kroeger told us “Million Miles An Hour” came together very late in the game during the recording sessions for the new disc: “It was the 11th hour of the album, and that one came out of left field, and we all just fell madly in love with the song immediately and we were like, ‘Okay, this thing is thumping. Let’s have this open the album.’” The band recently started a six-month North American tour that stops in London, ON, Canada on Saturday (Feb 21st)….Toolband.com, the official Tool website, posted this on Monday about the recent reports of the band recording in the same LA studio where Motorhead is working.
Wouldn’t you know it. Here I am hoping to observe President’s Day by taking care of something at home that I have been putting off for way too long, when I am bombarded with email from Tool fans wanting to know what’s going on concerning a recent Facebook post (now making the rounds on all of the on-line music sites) about the members of the band tracking in the same recording facility where the band “Motorhead” are working on something. Well, realizing that millions of you need to get back to shoveling the snow off of your houses instead of anxiously waiting for further information to appear on a computer screen, here are four possibilities that I can think of, with one of them probably being the most likely answer to the chance meeting between the two bands in the same recording studio:
A) The members of Tool that the guys in Motorhead saw and interacted with in the studio were actually the DECOY members of the band , who have started tracking tunes for the new DECOY Tool album.
B) Rather than tracking tunes for the next Tool record, the (real) members of the band have begun tracking (real) tunes for the Tool album that is to be released AFTER the next Tool album is released.
c) Rather than tracking anything, the members of the band were in the studio mixing music that was recorded sometime ago, which might not have anything to do with the next Tool album (which is still in the writing/arranging process), but might be used for another Tool project that has been in the works for a while, of which I am currently not at liberty to add any further details.
D) All of the above.
Okay, like I mentioned earlier, one of these is most likely correct. Now, you have lots of snow to shovel, and I have more socks to fold…I love the dude who does the Toolband site. I want to meet him one day…..And finally today, Motionless In White posted a new video for the tune “Break The Cycle.” Watch it here….Happy 67th today to the immortal Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. Actor Benicio Del Toro is 48 and on this fateful day in 1980, the iconic AC/DC frontman, Bon Scott, died. He was only 33. RIP Bon! I just recall him drinking so heartily! I think he drank an entire bottle of Jack Daniels during the band’s set one time. Probably happened a lot and probably what really did him in. Sad.
