Good day. Starting off with Pulse of Radio‘s report that the members of Korn have issued comments regarding the death of Shane Gibson, a former touring guitarist with the group who passed away from a blood clotting disorder on Tuesday (April 15th) at the age of 35. The band released a statement saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Shane Gibson’s friends, fans and family following the passing of our dear friend. Shane Gibson was Korn’s touring guitarist from 2007 to 2010 and a member of (singer) Jonathan Davis‘ solo band, The SFA’S. He will be greatly missed.” Gibson, who was most recently a member of a band called Stork, was one of several guitarists who toured with Korn during the eight-year absence of Brian “Head” Welch. Welch, who rejoined the group last year, said online, “I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Shane, but I’m honored he was able to fill my spot after I left Korn. He was an amazing guitarist. Hopefully we can jam together in the next life. RIP, brother.” Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer added, “Shane Gibson, you were an amazing guitar player and an amazing person. Your kindness and talent will be missed. I’m very fortunate to have known you.” I remember him now from JD’s solo tour. He also filled in for Munky when he stepped away from the band for a while. Here’s a video of Shane in action during JD’s solo tour on a track off the soundtrack to Queen Of The Damned called “Not Meant For Me.” (I loved the music from that!) 35, just too damn young. Condolences to his family and friends….Rob Zombie was on the hotLine yesterday and he told about not only his upcoming tour, first ever live concert dvd (which he also directed) The Zombie Horror Picture Show, but he also revealed he has a new album cooking! WHAT?! “I don’t want years and years to go by between records, even though somehow it always seems to happen. And you know, we’re really excited because we really felt that for ourselves as a band, the last record really kind of got back to something that I was looking for, and we were just excited to take it to the next level. When you’re feeling inspired, you kind of want to go for it, because sometimes you don’t feel inspired.” He said work will resume in May on it and he hopes to have it out in January. Meanwhile, he said he was sorry the hockey movie he was planning on directing got mired in red tape with the NHL, former hockey stars from the Philly Flyers and just your usual BS that goes along when movies are in the incubation stages. Not to mention, finding actors who can also skate like professional hockey players. Oh well. Next, next, next! as they say. The DVD will be released May 20th and a photo book by photographer Rob Fenn will be published as a companion piece to the home video release. hardDriveRadio will have copies of the DVD and BluRay for ya, so stay tuned and keep your beady eyeballs glued here…..Spin magazine reports Foo Fighters fans from Dave Grohl‘s hometown of Richmond, Virginia have launched a campaign to get the band to play a show there for the first time in over 15 years. The campaign, on crowdfunding website Crowdhoster, is selling 1,400 tickets at $50 a ticket, despite the fact that the Foo Fighters have yet to announce they will play a date in the city. Campaign co-founder Andrew Goldin said, “We have reason to believe they know about it at this point. We haven’t been shut down, so that’s a good sign, right?“….Oh I couldn’t believe this, but Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme has a role in an upcoming episode of IFC’s Portlandia playing the “disappointing” gay brother of Fred Armisen‘s wife on the show. Here’s a clip, and I must say, he’s pretty funny and a good actor! Meanwhile, Josh’s wife, Brody Dalle, has some shows coming up in support of her solo record, Diploid Love, opening for Queens of the Stone Age, starting Jul 12-20….. Yesterday, I had a nice long chat with Troy Sanders of Mastodon. And this is what a small world it really is. Was asking him where in Atlanta he’s from, saying that I spend Christmases with my boyfriend’s kids (and ex-wife, yes, we are friends!) down in Lilburn, GA! And mentioned some towns around there. Low and behold, HE’S FROM LILBURN, literally just a couple of miles from where I stay! Crazy! Anyhow, he makes Decatur home now, and if I had to live down there, that’s where I would want to be too! Sweet little town. Anyhow, looking forward to seeing the band at Rock on the Range next month! The new single, “High Road,” is out Apr 28th, but it has been posted online. (It’s nice & crunchingly heavy!) Be listening for it on the 28th in Smash Or Crash on hardDrive XL with Lou Brutus! The album, Once More ‘Round The Sun, is set for Jun 24th…. Devour The Day drop by the hardDriveRadio studios today….And huge birthday wishes go out to Maynard James Keenan who probably just received his AARP card in the mail because today he is 50! It’s when you get that card in the mail, you really start to feel OLD! LOL Happy Birthday MJK!
