Happy Monday! I say that because finally, I can buy Better Oats, those instant flax/oatmeal steel cut cereal packs in New York State! For years, I would be in Florida or Georgia and leave space in my suitcase to bring boxes and boxes home! NOT ANYMORE! LOL…..Listening to Joe Perry on Howard Stern (yes, I admit it!) He’s talking about his new book, Rocks: My Life In and Out of Aerosmith. And I reminds me of the good ole early days with Aerosmith, the stories Joe is telling. Talking about stealing food in the grocery store in order to eat. As a fan of the band, and then a friend, since my college roommate dated the drummer, we used to sneak into their shows at first. I remember climbing through the ladies room window at Brandeis College. LOL What are some of the crazy things you’ve done to see a band? Use the interact link on the hardDriveRadio app! Love to hear your comments. (You can download the app for your smartphone via iTunes and Google Play.)….Pulse of Radio says Foo Fighters helped kick off the 40th anniversary celebration of acclaimed PBS series Austin City Limits by performing on this past Friday’s (Oct 3rd) two-hour all-star edition. The band performed “Two Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer)” by local Austin legend Roky Erickson, with Dave Grohl saying, “It’s a huge honor to be back on this stage performing a song by one of Austin’s greatest heroes.” The special features guest hosts Jeff Bridges, Sheryl Crow and Matthew McConaughey plus numerous other performers. Watch here. I hear a promo that Dave is hosting a Town Hall session with comedian Chelsea Handler on Thursday. Hey, maybe he’s getting closer to talking to us radio folks about his new record…..Pearl Jam kicked off a fall U.S. tour in Cincinnati, OH last Wednesday (Oct 1st), and fan-filmed video from opening night is available. Here’s “Alive.” The band’s 34-song, three-hour-plus set opened with “Pendulum” from their current album, Lightning Bolt, before exploring tracks from their lengthy catalog as well as songs from the Rolling Stones, The Who and Neil Young. (Hennemusic)….I am sure Chad is having a chuckle or two over this one. Pulse of Radio reported this morning a British man has launched a Kickstarter campaign to have Nickelback banned from playing in London. According to NME,Craig Mandell is hoping to raise $1,000 for his effort to keep the Canadian rock act out of the English capital for the foreseeable future. Mandell explained, “With your help, we can ensure that the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here — nor even phone here.” He added, “Just imagine, thousands — perhaps tens of thousands of music lovers — all not witnessing an exclusive concert by Nickelback in London. It will be glorious.” Those who participate in Mandell’s scheme — which has raised just $6 at press time — will have an email sent on their behalf to Nickelback’s management. The harshness of the message depends on how much money is contributed. For the top price of $50, Mandell will send Nickelback a copy of their own music, saying, “This way, the band will hear their own music, and likely retire immediately.” Mandell has given himself until Nov 3rd to raise the funds necessary. Mandell is friends with Andrew Goldin, who recently launched a successful crowdfunded campaign to bring Foo Fighters to Richmond, Virginia for a concert. A similar effort has been underway to convince the Foos to play a show in the Cornwall region of the U.K. Nickelback’s new album, No Fixed Address, arrives on Nov 18th…Royal Blood will make their return to late night American television on Wednesday, Oct 15th, as the British duo perform their current single, “Figure It Out,” on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers. Royal Blood is currently on tour in North America, supporting Pixies after a run of headlining dates. Singer and bassist Mike Kerr told us that America feels like a good place for Royal Blood right now: “The States is somewhere we love to play and we love to be, and we obviously have a bit more attention than we anticipated over there. So I guess it feels like we’ve fans to meet and we’ve got some stuff to follow up. I feel like America’s gonna be a good home for our band.”…Blabbermouth reports Stone Sour has entered a Burbank, CA studio to begin recording a covers album for a tentative early 2015 release. No further details are currently available. On the band’s recent North American tour, the band treated fans to a different cover song every night. Among the tracks they performed during the trek were Metallica‘s “Creeping Death,” KISS‘ “Love Gun,” Judas Priest‘s “Heading Out To The Highway” and Peter Gabriels “In Your Eyes”. I know for YEARS Corey Taylor (the human jukebox) has wanted to do a covers record. Let’s not forget their cover of Chris Issak’s “Wicked Game.” Wish I could have these in time for the hardDrive COVER IT UP special edition for Thanksgiving weekend! Damn! Might be time to make some phone calls! Here’s some video performances in the time being (“Creeping Death”)(“Heading Out To The Highway“)(“Love Gun“) (“In Your Eyes”/””Bother“)…Slash. The hardest working man I know. Honestly. I thought Corey Taylor and Rob Zombie were the kings, but hands down, it’s Slash. He just released his album World On Fire on Sep 16, opened the new Haunted Halloween attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood on the 19th, played 3 Hollywood club dates Sep 23-25. Then spent a couple of days at home before hopping on yet ANOTHER airplane to Australia to do this! He appeared with Train at the Grand Final of Australia’s National Rugby League (NRL) on Sunday, Oct 5 in front of more than 80,000 fans at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium. Video footage of Slash‘s performance can be seen
here. (Thanks Blabbermouth.) ….And finally today, speaking of covers, for your listening and viewing enjoyment, check this talented banjoist out who dares to cover Slayer!
