Hello people! It’s Monday and the world is a very different place today. They caught David Sweat, marriage equality is now law, and Disturbed is back ten-fold!
Their new single “The Vengeful One” made it’s debut on the Neilsen rock singles chart at Number 11. With 875 spins in the 5 days since it was released. That is HUGE. David Draiman posted this message on Facebook which I was tagged in:
All Access/Media Base (Industry chart)
Disturbed Debut Top 15 with “The Vengeful One”
811 Spins in first week
Just under 2 million views on YouTube in 1 week. ! million+ within first 24 hours
Unprecedented in our own history as Disturbed. The strongest debut for one of our singles, ever.
Not too shabby gentlemen. (.ok I take umbrage, I am a woman LOL)
Congratulations!
I had to remind David the song was only released on Tuesday morning. So it’s not even a full week YET! Could go higher by tomorrow! So my first post was: They said Rock Is Dead. Active Rock bands are over. Format in jeopardy. WHO ARE THEY? You Rock and We Rock With You!
OK, so on the heels of that huge news comes this!
Rage Against The Machine‘s Tom Morello wrote, “A great day for human rights & human love.” Pearl Jam posted a photo of the band standing in front of a stage lit up with rainbow colors and wrote, “Love wins.” Flea tweeted, “Love love love,” while Garbage posted, “Congratulations to all our beautiful gay friends in the US who can now legally marry if they so wish.Civil rights hard won.Justice for all.” Smashing Pumpkins frontman William Corgan wrote, “Congrats to all our gay and lesbian fans on today’s Supreme Court ruling. I’ve always believed in my heart that this was a just right 4 all.”
The landmark ruling is the most significant change in laws governing matrimony since the court struck down state bans on interracial marriage nearly 50 years ago. The majority opinion was penned by Justice Anthony Kennedy, who wrote, “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death.”
Breaking Benjamin has posted a new live video on Vevo for “Failure,” the first single from the band’s recently released fifth album, Dark Before Dawn. The song is currently Number One on the rock radio chart and frontman Ben Burnley told us that the fan response is the reason why he’s still playing: “That’s the only reason ‘Failure’ exists, it’s the only reason Dark Before Dawn exists. When you’re doing it for them, to have them accept it and support it is just touching and it’s just the whole reason why I do what I do.”
Dark Before Dawn was released last Tuesday (June 23rd) and is Breaking Benjamin’s first new studio set since 2009’s Dear Agony. Ben Burnley was plagued by a mysterious illness during the hiatus that kept him off the road for years. He says that he still suffers from flu-like symptoms, exhaustion and occasional dizziness, and that the medical community has been unable to pinpoint what it is. In addition to Burnley’s health issues, the band’s long period of inactivity also included legal action against two former members. Breaking Benjamin will kick off a new batch of tour dates on July 14th in Big Flats, NY, wrapping up on July 26th in Gilford, NH. And check out our acoustic performance with Breaking Benjamin on our hardDriveRadio YouTube Channel, which is getting a hell of a lot of views, I must say!
Pulse also posted Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl told the Washington Post in a new interview he was “terrified” of watching the new documentary on late Nirvana founder Kurt Cobain, Montage Of Heck, when he and his wife stumbled upon it on HBO recently. Grohl explained, “All the footage of him as a child, I think that might make me sad, and then the dark stuff at the end I think would bum me out.” Grohl added that he watched for 10 minutes, then rolled over and went to sleep — since he had to be up at six the next morning to take the kids to school. Although Grohl was interviewed for the film, his footage was not used. Director Brett Morgen told us how he’s explained Grohl’s absence to fans: “What I’ve done and started doing is turning on people and going, ‘Well, what is it you want him to say? Is there something you feel we’re missing about Kurt?’ And there never is an answer. No, we feel like we’ve just got to know Kurt better than we ever have, so why in the world do you want Dave? ‘Because he’s famous.’ And that’s exactly why he shouldn’t be in the movie.”
Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell spoke with Metal Hammer magazine about his appearance on the upcoming Deftones album, due out Sept 25th. Cantrell explained, “Chino (Moreno, singer) sent over the song file and I thought it was really great, cool and moody, so I worked on it that night and threw something down. He sent me a file of them jamming the song live, I sent it back with the idea I laid down, and Chino thought it was perfect. I waited until they got back in the studio and then came in and laid it down. So, it was pretty easy, and I think it’s going to be a great song.”
It’s with sadness we share the news of the passing of Yes co-founding member, bassist Chris Squire. Chris was 67 and suffered from acute erythroid leukemia. Listen to “Owner Of A Lonely Heart,” or “Roundabout” or any of the amazing prog rock tunes Chris was a part of. Maybe now the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will decide to induct the band in their next ceremony. Shameful they haven’t made it in by now. And sad Chris will never get to be there for it.
