Am I crazy, or are the officials in Oak Island, NC in denial? The waters off your beaches should be CLOSED DOWN! Two kids lost limbs yesterday in major shark attacks and you aren’t telling people to stay out of the water? What, is this Jaws 2015?
Big news hit Saturday morning when I saw a post on my Facebook about the bad fall Foo Fighter Dave Grohl had during the second song of his festival show in Gothenburg, Sweden. He tripped and fell off the stage during “Monkey Wrench.” He remained on the floor for several minutes before being taken backstage. He told the audience, “Hey, ladies and gentlemen. I love you, but I think I just broke my leg. I really broke my leg.” After Grohl was taken backstage, the rest of Foo Fighters played a set of covers sung by drummer Taylor Hawkins.
After leaving the stage to be seen by medics, what does he do? Despite the medical staff’s urges to go to the hospital right away, he returns to the stage. Aided by a medic, with his leg propped up on a chair held steady, He told the crowd, “I may not be able to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream.” Dave proceeded to finish the band’s set seated in a chair! “My Hero” has a very different meaning now! As a result, the band had to cancel two festival appearances in the Netherlands and Switzerland. They hope Dave can do their show in London on Friday night. Video here.
Well, it’s “Big Guns” season in the rock world! Today, the new Five Finger Death Punch single dropped called “Jekyll & Hyde.” They moved it up a week. Was originally slated to drop on the 22nd. The song is the first off the band’s August 28th release of Got Your Six. Lou Brutus spoke with drummer Jeremy Spencer from the band who told us, the tune clicked immediately for the band: “You know what, I think it’s really a different groove for us. It’s something that people are gonna go, ‘Man, it sounds like Death Punch but it’s really different for them.’ So I’m excited to get it released. As soon as we heard it, we knew that that had to be the first single, ’cause it just kind of leapt out at us, you know.”
The funny story about the song is the lyrics were derived from random voice mail messages singer Ivan Moody would leave on various band members’ cellphones. Ivan is a notorious night owl. He calls other members in the middle of the night and would leave messages. Guitarist Jason Hook found dozens of them on his phone and downloaded them. Then the band took phrases and sentences from those messages for the song. Love that! We love you Ivan. A knucklehead, indeed! Look for the band to kick off their fall tour with Papa Roach, In This Moment and From Ashes To New on Sep 4th. Five Finger Death Punch is our Featured Artist of the Week next week.
