Argh! September 1st is tomorrow! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Happy to congratulate my friends in Disturbed! Their new Immortalized cd debuted at Numbero Uno on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart! 129,000 total copies! So stoked for them! I am seeing their Facebook posts and they are just over the moon! And Ghost debuts on the chart at Number 8 with Meliora! They just performed the past week in Paris, Reading and Leeds. Well, I guess we can close the book on that “Rock Is Dead” BS!
Well, this will be the next Number One debut, you can be sure of it! The Pulse of Radio reports Five Finger Death Punch (this week’s hardDrive XL Featured Artist!) is streaming its new album, Got Your Six, in its entirety at Pandora.com. The disc is streaming from now until Thursday (Sep 3rd) at 7:00 p.m. ET. The album arrives on Friday (Sep 4th) and follows up the 2013 double disc release The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell.
Even after making a double album and touring for a year, Five Finger Death Punch has come back relatively quickly with Got Your Six. Guitarist Jason Hook told us he’s always ready to start making new music: “I have a whole studio here at my house. I’m always writing and recording music anyway, so at any given time, I’m kind of ready to go. You can never have enough soon enough, and so I just learned early on, always be preparing. So when it comes time to pull the trigger, I mean, we could go in and track eight songs pretty much right out of the gate. And then, you know, start writing a few more and boom, record’s being finished.”
Guitarist Zoltan Bathory said about the partnership with Pandora, “I’m an avid Pandora user, so I was very exciting when Pandora approached us and we learned that five million fans to date have created Five Finger Death Punch stations on their platform — so working with them on debuting Got Your Six seemed like a natural fit.”
Got Your Six is available at the band’s website for pre-order in standard and deluxe versions, including several different merchandise packages. Five Finger Death Punch begins a fall co-headlining tour with Papa Roach on Sep 4th in Lexington, KY, winding down on Oct 09 in Glens Falls, NY. Also on the trek will be In This Moment and From Ashes To New.
And your daily Foo Fighters item. Frontman Dave Grohl is featured in a long-in-the-works documentary called All Things Must Pass, which chronicles the history of the legendary music store chain Tower Records. The film is finally getting released on October 15th after being screened earlier this year at the South By Southwest Festival and a trailer is now online. The movie has been directed by Colin Hanks, son of actor Tom Hanks.
Grohl himself told me in my first interview with him in 1999 he once worked at a legendary and now-defunct record store: “I worked at Tower Records when I was 18, 19, something like that, in Washington D.C. It was pretty fun. I always looked at Tower as the place you could get a job if you had a really funky haircut. Maybe you could get a job at the construction warehouse, but you’d kind of rather be surrounded by music.”
Hanks began working on the film in 2008, but struggled to find money for it until a 2011 Kickstarter campaign raised $98,000. The film focuses on Tower founder Russ Solomon, who launched the first Tower store in Sacramento, California in 1960. The outlet later expanded to San Francisco, Los Angeles and locations all over the world, before eventually going bankrupt in 2006. Others featured in the documentary include Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and record industry executives David Geffen and Jim Urie, as well as Solomon and members of the Tower staff.
And here is the Chicago Tribune’s review of Foos’ show on Saturday night in Chicago at Wrigley Field. Dave got a little choked up! Awwwww!!!! And here’s the band jamming with John Popper of Blues Traveler during their show in Indy on Thursday night!
We knew this news a while back, but it is official. Of Mice And Men has canceled its upcoming performance at the Louder Than Life Festival on Oct 3rd in Louisville, KY due to frontman Austin Carlile‘s ongoing recovery from recent surgery. Previously postponed gigs in Mexico City and San Diego are now permanently canceled as well. The band said in a statement, “It is important that we allow (Carlile) time to recover so that we may come back in 2016 stronger than ever. Refunds for the Mexico City and San Diego shows can be sought at their point of purchase.”
Of Mice And Men’s next scheduled concert is not until Nov 21st at Ozzfest Japan. Carlile went under the knife in June after canceling several shows to correct problems he was experiencing as a result of having Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissue in the body and can lead to defects in the heart and even death if not properly managed. Austin has been in recovery and physical therapy throughout the summer, tweeting in mid-July that he was going to therapy three times a week. He was hospitalized abruptly on June 6th, forcing the band to cancel several shows. Of Mice And Men’s current single, “Never Giving Up,” is Number 21 on the rock radio airplay chart this week. I’ve noticed on his Twitter he has been out and about on his skateboard. We hope his recovery goes smoothly.
This week in the hardDriveRadio studios here in steamy midtown Manhattan, today: Buckcherry’s Keith Nelson and Josh Todd. Wednesday, The Struts. Stay tuned for more INTERACTIVE news, too!
