TIME FOR MARGARITAS!!!!!! Happy Cinco De Mayo!
On to da news!
Well, lookie here! On Tuesday, May 9 at 9PM EST, Metallica is hitting Facebook Live for “Now That We’re Live” – a live rehearsal event from M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. And our very own Lou Brutus will be hosting a radio special that will air on the 10th nation-wide.
Celebrating the kick-off of the tour on the next night, the “Now That We’re Live” rehearsal special will feature Metallica performing four songs in their entirety, including their current single, “Now That We’re Dead.” Stay tuned for more details!
Linkin Park and Blink-182 will join forces for two stadium shows at the end of July. The first will be on July 28th at Citi Field in Flushing (the all time worst name for a city; it’s actually in Queens), NY, while the second will take place on July 30th at Hershey Park Stadium in Hershey, PA. Also appearing at the Flushing show will be Wu Tang Clan and Machine Gun Kelly, while the latter will also perform at the Hershey event.
Linkin Park drummer Rob Bourdon told us that playing stadium gigs always makes the band step up their game: “When you step into the stadium realm, it’s like you’ve got people as far as you can see so you really– it’s almost like you’ve gotta do more to get the audience into it, you know. You’ve gotta work harder, you know, ’cause there’s 50,000 people there. It’s like you’ve gotta work 20 times harder to get those people into it as you would like in a smaller venue.”
A ticket pre-sale begins on Tuesday, May 9th for anyone who registers at presale.linkinpark.com. General sales start on Friday, May 12th.
Earlier in the week, Linkin Par announced a North American tour in support of the band’s seventh album, One More Light. The trek kicks off on Jul 27th in Boston and winds down on Oct 22nd in Los Angeles. One More Light arrives on May 19th.
Blink-182 will spent most of the summer on tour in Europe. A deluxe version of the band’s 2016 album, California, featuring 11 new songs, will also come out on the 19th. (Thanks The Pulse Of Radio.)
My pals Halestorm have unveiled a new video for the song “Dear Daughter,” a track from the group’s 2015 album Into The Wild Life. Singer Lzzy Hale said about the clip, “I’m hoping that through this song, I can spread the inspiration and empowerment that has been instilled in me. Carve your own path, ladies (and little gents too). I’m living proof that nothing in life is impossible.”
To celebrate the video launch, Hale performed “Dear Daughter” for fans on Thursday (May 4th) via the band’s Facebook page. In honor of Mother’s Day (May 14th), Halestorm is encouraging fans to post photos of their mothers and/or daughters with their own stories of encouragement and the hashtag #DearDaughter.
Hale said about “Dear Daughter” in an interview with RockSverige, “(Halestorm drummer Arejay Hale and I) grew up with a very supportive mother . . . We get to speak to a lot of young girls, and a lot of them do have those supportive parents, but a lot of them don’t. So I think this was my way — lyrically, at least — just passing that on.”
Halestorm released its third covers EP, ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP, in Jan. The band is currently writing material for its next album, with no firm date set so far. They want to take their time on this one and working on and off with Nick Raskulinecz.
A Perfect Circle is planning to release its fourth studio album within the next 12 months — but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t sound very much like the first three. In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, guitarist Billy Howerdel said the new disc might go in a completely different direction than its predecessors, explaining that it could be “a big departure from the first record and is influenced by a more Depeche Mode, electronic and ‘dance-y’ sound like material from the late ’70s and ’80s.”
The band has already debuted two new songs on their recent tour dates, “Feathers” and “Hourglass,” which reportedly sound more like their older material. A Perfect Circle’s three previous albums are 2000’s Mer De Noms, 2003’s Thirteenth Step and 2004’s covers collection, eMOTIVe.
As for the long wait for the new record, Howerdel said, “You can’t say, ‘hurry up, create’ . . . It has to come from chemistry and that’s what we’re trying to do.” A Perfect Circle is currently on its first full-length tour since 2011, which stops in Concord, NC at Carolina Rebellion tonight (May 5th) and comes to a close in Los Angeles on Sunday (May 7th). “None Of The Above,” a brand new song from Papa Roach, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band’s ninth studio album, Crooked Teeth, which will be released on May 19 via Eleven Seven Music. The disc will be available digitally and physically, as a standard (10 tracks) and deluxe (10 tracks + 3 brand new tracks + 16 Live tracks Live at the Fillmore Detroit) editions.
Written and recorded in a cramped North Hollywood studio, Crooked Teeth was produced by first timers Nicholas “RAS” Furlong and Colin Brittain, with the exception of “Born For Greatness,” which saw the band collaborate with writer/producer Jason Evigan (Jason Derulo, Demi Lovato, Zedd, MAROON 5) for this positive, pulsating anthem. Furlong and Brittain, who grew up listening to P-Roach, inspired the band to revisit some of the traits that personally endeared the band to them, most notably singer Jacoby Shaddix‘s remarkable rapping technique and the band’s intense live energy.
Meanwhile, the next P-Roach single will be “American Dreams.” “Help” has been the Number 1 most played rock radio tune for the past 6 weeks! Which is pretty freakin’ awesome! And Colin was hanging with the band at Fort Rock over the weekend. Cool guy, but he sorta looked like a fish out of water hanging out. Even Jacoby pointed that out. Was funny actually…..nice dude for sure.
And finally today, Blabbermouth reporting Slipknot has released an interactive, 360-degree live video for the Iowa track “The Shape.” The clip, which was helmed by the band’s percussionist and visual mastermind M. Shawn Crahan (a.k.a. Clown), captures the band’s first-ever live performance of the song at last year’s Knotfest.
“From the beginning, Slipknot’s goal has always been world domination,” Crahan tells Rolling Stone. “That goal is still the same today. The video for ‘The Shape’, filmed at our festival Knotfest with our ‘maggots,’ and over 1 billion views on our YouTube channel, proves it’s happening. Like it or not.”
Slipknot performed Iowa in its entirety at the two-day Ozzfest Meets Knotfest event, which took place Sep 24-25, 2016. Iowa came out in August 2001 and followed up Slipknot‘s double-platinum 1999 major label debut. Slipknot is on hiatus now although several members of the group are beginning to write material for their next record.
Celebrating life this weekend: Today original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward is 69 and Saturday, Chris “Shifty” Shiflett of Foo Fighters is 46. Enjoy your weekend and don’t hurt yourselves on tequila!
