What a minute! What happened to August?
He’s baaaack! Rob Zombie, who I saw briefly after his show the other night on the Return of the Dreads Tour, who, BTW, I think has gotten very skinny….wonder what that is all about…..has posted a very gory trailer for his new film, 31, which has a national screening today via Fathom Events.
31, Rob’s latest horror film, is being distributed by Saban Films. The trailer comes in advance of the Fathom Events premiere of the film tonight (Sep 1st), which will take place in selected theaters around the country and also feature a Q&A with Zombie, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film and the world premieres of two new Zombie videos for his songs “Gore Whore” and “Get Your Boots On.”
While Saban picked up the finished movie, Zombie raised part of the money to complete it through crowdfunding. He told us the campaign was a positive experience: “When I did it, I didn’t really know much about it at all, because I remembered a few people had done it. I remembered there was like a Veronica Mars movie, and Spike Lee had done it, and I was like, ‘Ah, I don’t know, is this cheesy? Is this lame? What is this, do I want to do this?’ And as I looked into it more and more, I thought, well, as long as whatever I’m offering — it was like, ‘Okay, if you give this much, you get this’ — and as long as I thought the ‘this for that’ was equal, I didn’t feel bad about it.”
Tonight’s special screening will happen ahead of the movie’s VOD premiere on Sep 16th and theatrical release on Oct 21st. 31 follows five carnival workers who are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game and survive 12 hours against a gang of sadistic clowns. The movie stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Malcolm McDowell, Jeff Daniel Phillips and Meg Foster.
Zombie’s latest album, The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser, arrived in late April. He’s currently on a co-headlining tour with Korn that stops in Hartford, CT on tonight and closes out on September 16th in Erie, PA.
Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington updated fans yesterday on the progress the band is making on their 7th studio album. The self-produced project is currently being recorded in Los Angeles. Following several recent updates from co-vocalist Mike Shinoda, Bennington has now said, “I’ve been working really hard on some vocals for the last couple of months and we’ve done some really great stuff. The songs are amazing, I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished in the studio.” He added, “So far we’ve got a lot of great material that I hope challenges our fan base as well as inspires them as much as it has us. So I’m really looking forward to you guys hearing the stuff. It’s super exciting.“
Linkin Park has come a long way from its rap-rock roots, with Bennington himself telling us a while back that he felt the band’s music was getting harder to classify: “I think sonically, if people felt like they knew what Linkin Park was or they could, they thought they knew what Linkin Park’s sound was — it’s getting harder and harder for us, let alone anybody else, to classify what Linkin Park is.”
No release date has been confirmed yet for the new disc, which will follow up 2014’s The Hunting Party, but a 2017 arrival is likely for the yet-to-be-titled set. And don’t be surprised if a single drops without any advance notice!
Meanwhile, The Pulse Of Radio reports members of Linkin Park, along with members of Tool, Weezer and more than 200 other artists have signed an amicus brief (according to Wikipedia is an amicus curiae [literally, friend of the court; plural, amici curiae] is someone who although not a party to a case and unsolicited by any of the parties in the case, to assist the court in the case offers information that bears on the case) attached to an appeal by the lawyers for Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams. The appeal seeks to overturn a ruling that their song “Blurred Lines” infringed on the copyright of Marvin Gaye‘s “Got To Give It Up” by copying not any specific musical passages but its “vibe.” Gaye’s family was awarded $5.3 million in damages and 50 percent of royalties from the song, setting a new precedent that has many artists concerned over showing even the slightest inspiration or influence from past works in their own music. Disturbed has released the lyric video for “Open Your Eyes.” Singer David Draiman told Oklahoma City radio station Rock 100.5 the KATT that the song is “encouraging people to look beyond what’s immediately in front of them, what’s thrust upon them on their screens and to try and find the real truth and the real essence of what they should be doing in their lives, and to wake up.” The song will follow up Disturbed’s cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound Of Silence,” which recently topped the rock radio chart. Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale and guitarist Joe Hottinger joined Thee Rock ‘N’ Roll Residency on stage Tuesday night (Aug 30th) at Harp & Fiddle in Nashville to perform cover versions of Led Zeppelin‘s “Black Dog” and Aerosmith‘s “Draw The Line.” Halestorm is currently preparing to record a third covers EP to follow 2011’s ReAniMate and 2013’s ReAniMate 2.0. Alter Bridge, who are making an appearance in the hardDriveRadio studios in two weeks, has released the official music video for “Show Me A Leader,” the first single from the band’s upcoming album The Last Hero. The clip is said to be based on a concept created by the band and director Zev Deans.
Guitarist Mark Tremonti told us the single’s title and the album’s name both tie into a theme that runs through the record: “Kind of the whole record has this recurring theme about how there’s a lack of great leaders in the world at the moment, and heroes. Heroes, leaders. The first single, ‘Show Me A Leader,’ is pretty much, you know, show me somebody that we can trust to either run our country, run other countries…there’s just a lot of this, you know, ‘where are our true heroes these days’ kind of a theme going on through the record.”
The Last Hero is scheduled for worldwide release on Oct 7th and follows up Alter Bridge’s 2013 album, Fortress, which featured the Top 15 single “Addicted To Pain.”
Alter Bridge will head out on select U.S. headline dates in support of The Last Hero this month, starting on Sep 22nd in Destin, FL. The band will also perform at a few festival dates this fall, including the inaugural Houston Open Air, Sonic Boom, Louder Than Life and the Tulsa State Fair.
Phil Rudd,,,,always smoking.(Photo Credit: Rolling Stone)
Oh man….The Pulse Of Radio says ex-AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd revealed in a new interview with Bay Of Plenty Times he recently suffered a heart attack and underwent surgery to place a stent inside his heart. The 62-year-old Rudd explained, “I was just at home walking around at home, and I started feel, well, just funny. You know how you can feel funny? I had a strange pain in my chest. So my housekeeper took me to the hospital, when they hooked me up and did all these tests turned out I had a big heart attack . . . my artery was all blocked up, and they said I had to stay in and have an operation.“
Rudd added after sneaking out to a store to “get some cigarettes,” (hello, smoking, really? think that had anything to do with his heart?) he went home to get his car and drove himself back to the hospital, where the stent was inserted through his arm. He said, “All I have is a tiny scar in my wrist. And my hair has grown back too so I am all good, I am healthy and got so much color in my cheeks.” Yet he’s probably smoking right now!
Rudd also said he is willing to return to AC/DC if asked, remarking, “If Angus (Young, AC/DC guitarist) wanted me to play, then that is up to him . . . but I don’t really want to play with (current touring vocalist) Axl Rose — I don’t really rate him.”
AC/DC parted ways with Rudd in late 2014 after the drummer was arrested at his home in Tauranga, New Zealand on charges of drug possession and threatening to kill. He was sentenced to eight months house arrest. Rudd has since claimed that his “hell-raising days are over” and is pursuing a solo career, while AC/DC recruited drummer Chris Slade — who played with the band in the early Nineties — to man the kit for the band’s current Rock Or Bust touring cycle.
In addition to Malcolm Young and Phil Rudd, AC/DC lost the services of singer Brian Johnson earlier this year due to hearing problems, while bassist Cliff Williams plans to retire at the end of this tour. That will leave Angus Young as the only member left from the lineup that recorded the classic album Back In Black.
Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder has contributed a new song to the soundtrack of the upcoming Twin Peaks revival. Called “Out Of Sand,” the tune was performed live by Vedder at the Ohana Music Festival this past weekend. A recording of the song was also included in the latest, Pearl Jam-themed package from Third Man Records’ Vault subscription series. The new season of Twin Peaks will air in 2017 on Showtime and Vedder also appears on the show, along with several other musicians including Trent Reznor and others. (Consequence Of Sound)
