No words. Just no words can express how shattered I feel right now waking up to the news of the death of 52-year old Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave. He was found unresponsive in his hotel room in Detroit just hours after the band’s sold out show at the Fox Theater in the Motor City.
His press agent offered this statement, as quoted in the NY Times: Mr. Cornell died Wednesday night in Detroit, said his representative, Brian Bumbery, in a statement that called the death “sudden and unexpected” and that said the singer’s family would be “working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause.”
Reports out of Detroit said an unnamed source commented it may have been a suicide, something I find very hard to believe. Chris was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor by a friend who was sent to his hotel room by his wife, Vicky, who became alarmed when the singer was not in touch that evening after the show. The band was scheduled to headline Rock On The Range Saturday night.
He was active on Twitter earlier on Wednesday, posting this:
I am devastated. Nothing more to add right now. Off to Columbus, where the entire rock community will be mourning this loss.
