Many thanks to Sick Puppies and crew for going the extra mile with our hardDriveRadio Radicals Irina and her husband Jeffrey, the winners of our flyaway to Orlando for the hardDrive Live Tour. Irina and Jeff’s two night stay in Orlando also included a pair of passes for DisneyWorld. Woo hoo!

Actually, the next two weeks around the cubicle are gonna be nuts. We’ve got so many artists coming in, I had to write a memo to keep track! Plus getting Lou Brutus and Paulie Walnuts ready for Rock On The Range, it’s like, mental! Here’s what I can remember off the top of what’s left of my brain in order of appearance:
The Used
Sevendust
Chevelle (on the phone)
Trivium
Avatar
Red Sun Rising
Sick Puppies
Stitched Up Heart
Red Hot Chili Peppers (from an LA studio)
Gone Is Gone
I am sure I am forgetting something. But as you can see, it’s cray cray busy. So, if you have questions you’d like us to ask any of these bands, feel free to send them via the Interact Live section of the hardDriveRadio APP, the email link on the home page, or call the hotLine 877-Music-11.
Meanwhile, congrats to the hardDrive Live Tour‘s Red Sun Rising for their Number One single for the past two weeks, “Emotionless.” Frontman Mike Protich told Lou Brutus the idea for the song came from a dream. “This one was a dream that I had and it was very haunting. It was a very clear visual, you know, of a woman laying on a bed, and I knew in the dream that I loved that woman but I didn’t know who it was. It was kind of a faceless person. I couldn’t tell if she was dead or she was sleeping, so I came up with this concept that she was just emotionless there. That song was actually written back in 2009 or ’10, it’s an old song that we kind of brought out of the bag and made it work.“
The band also scored a Number One with their first single, “The Otherside,” marking the first time a new band has scored a Number One single for an independent label (Razor & Tie.) Check them out on the hardDrive Live Tour and find their album, Polyster Zeal. Wonder what the next single to go one for them will be?
The Pulse Of Radio reports Volbeat has issued a new lyric video for “The Bliss,” a new song from the Danish-American act’s upcoming album Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie. “The Bliss” is not only very accessible, but even features a banjo solo. Guitarist Rob Caggiano told us Volbeat follows very few rules when it comes to music: “It’s one of the coolest things about this band for me, it’s like there’s no real boundaries, you know, like musical boundaries, so to speak. So it just makes it really fresh and interesting. So yeah, I mean, if you’re asking if there’s like some kind of Volbeat formula, I don’t think that exists (laughs).”
“The Bliss” follows on the heels of the band’s current single, “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown,” which has already climbed into the Top Five at rock radio. Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie arrives on Jun 3rd and is the follow-up to 2013’s Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies.
Volbeat will spend most of the summer in Europe, returning in August for Seether‘s Rise Above festival in Maine on Aug 6th, the Heavy Montreal event on Aug 7th, and an opening slot for Metallica at the new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Aug 20th.
I’m going to see Pearl Jam tonight at Madison Square Garden. Pulse reports they performed its 1991 debut Ten front to back to kick off its show in Philadelphia on Friday night (Apr 29th), just months before the album’s 25th anniversary. This marked the second time in their career that the band has performed the full Ten album all the way through, previously doing so in 1992 at a concert in Munich. Starting off Friday’s set with “Once,” the group then plowed through the next 10 tracks from the disc, including classics like “Even Flow,” “Alive,” “Black” and “Jeremy.” Pearl Jam also played its second album, Vs., in its entirety at a show earlier this month in Greenville, SC. Oh man, I hope we get Ten tonight! Please! Last night, at MSG, the band did a 35 song set with two encores. Set list contained select tunes from nearly every album, including 3 covers: Mother Love Bone‘s “Crown Of Thorns,” The Doobie Brothers “Takin’ It To The Streets,” and Neil Young‘s “Rockin’ In The Free World.”
More artists are including a tribute to Prince in their sets. According to Pulse Of Radio,
Muse shared a video they recorded when they appeared in the BBC Live Lounge in 2012 and covered Prince’s “Sign O’ The Times.” Muse adds some considerably heavier guitars to the song while retaining Prince’s funk feel and synthesizers, making it a unique blend of heavy rock and pop. (Radio.com)
Evanescence also paid tribute to the legendary singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer with a performance of his classic song “Purple Rain” on Apr 30th at the House Of Blues in Orlando, FL. Evanescence singer Amy Lee tweeted after Prince’s Apr 21st death that she was “just another heartbroken person over the loss of Prince. I can’t believe it. He was a genius and an inspiration and a BADASS…and so young.” (Blabbermouth)
