Well, this happened! Stone Sour actually kidnapped an uber-fan and brought him to the studio where he was the first person to hear the new Stone Sour Hydrograd album. But wait, I seem to know that another uber-fan and friend was out in Burbank for 15 hours over the weekend, none other than our own Lou Brutus!
Lou Brutus at the controls and with Corey Taylor in the studio listening to the new Stone Sour album!
The album was recorded in North Hollywood, CA at Sphere Studios and is expected to be released in June. It was produced by the band and Jay Ruston. Ruston mixed the band’s House of Gold & Bones-Pt 2, as well as has worked with Anthrax, Theory of a Deadman, Pop Evil and Steel Panther. Will see if I can find out when this new Stone Sour single is coming! Stay tuned, America!
The Pulse Of Radio reporting Nirvana‘s milestone 1991 album Nevermind returned to the Billboard 200 album chart last week with sales of 5,000 copies, marking the set’s 350th non-consecutive week on the chart. That put Nevermind at Number Eight in terms of total weeks spent on the 61-year-old chart. The longest run on the list continues to belong to Pink Floyd‘s The Dark Side Of The Moon with 927 weeks.
Nevermind was reissued in 2011 in both standard and deluxe editions to commemorate its 20th anniversary. It was originally released in 1991, debuting at 144 with a mere 6,000 copies sold in first week. The album remained on the chart for nearly two years, finally falling off in July 1993, only to return three weeks later. Nevermind has been certified diamond for 10 million sales in the U.S. and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
Nevermind producer Butch Vig told us a while back the album remains a high point of his career: “Nevermind has been an album that, for me, is one of those things that, well, it changed my life. And it’s, I’ll always have it as something that I worked with and was associated with. And I’m really proud of it, because to me that record still sounds as vital as it did when it came out.”
The album was Nirvana’s second and its first for a major label, Geffen Records. The disc, led by Nirvana’s signature hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” helped usher in the era of grunge and elevate “alternative music” to new commercial heights of success. Other smashes to emerge from the record included “Come As You Are” and “In Bloom.”
Sadly, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1994. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, in its first year of eligibility. Read the full story at Billboard
The Pulse Of Radio also reporting The Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen discussed the band’s decision to record its latest album in analog instead of digital in an interview with From Hero To Zero, saying she dislikes digital recordings with “no human element to it.” Momsen told us the group was not interested in making the record sound perfect: “Yeah, it was very much trying to capture the human element and the person, the note, and realizing that perfection is not necessarily what makes something good. It’s the imperfections that add human life to something, and that’s what is gonna connect with people.”
Momsen expressed her distaste for digital recordings to From Hero To Zero, saying, “Doesn’t it all sound the f**king same? Are you bored yet with lined-up guitar solos and everyone’s voice sounds the same when put through the machine? There’s no human element to it, so how can you connect? . . . With everything being so digitally manipulated, I feel you lose so much of that.”
Momsen also expressed her disappointment with the current shift in music away from albums, saying, “Right now, it’s like being in the ’50s again where it’s all single-based and the album is slowly disappearing, which is sad to me. I love the album. To me, it’s not about one song. You can’t capture everything in one song. It’s about the whole piece of work, the whole body of work.”
The Pretty Reckless’ third album, Who You Selling For, arrived last Oct. The current single, “Oh My God,” is Number Four on the rock radio chart. The Pretty Reckless will launch a new North American tour on Apr 26th in Washington D.C., including a number of dates opening for Soundgarden.
And finally today, Blabbermouth reporting Metallica was joined on stage in Mexico City by the one and only punk pioneer, Iggy Pop! They performed Iggy’s band, The Stooges’ “T.V. Eye” as evidenced in the video above.
And in case you missed it: here is the dress rehearsal video of Metallica’s performance at the Grammys with Lady Gaga. Most awesome.
Celebrating life today: David Gilmour (singer-guitarist, Pink Floyd) is 71 and Madonna Wayne Gacy (a.k.a. Stephen Bier, Jr.; former keyboardist for Marilyn Manson) is 53.
