Start of the long holiday weekend, YEAH BABY YEAH! Now I wish all this yellow pollen from the pine trees surrounding my cabin in the Adirondacks would shed this crap so I can stop SNEEZING and COUGHING!
Look what Dave Grohl tweeted from the Foo Fighters Twitter page! Aw, but why is he writing in all caps? Is he mad at us? Anyhow, The Pulse of Radio says Dave has apparently given his seal of approval for Dischord Records to release Scream’s very last album! How cool!
Fumble was initially released by Dischord in 1993 and would be the band’s fifth and final release. Along with Grohl, the group featured vocalist Peter Stahl, guitarist Franz Stahl and bassist Skeeter Thompson. (Long time Foos fans will remember Franz Stahl later spent some time in an early lineup of Foo Fighters.) Grohl joined Scream after original drummer Kent Stax exited and first appeared on the band’s fourth studio effort, No More Censorship. Fumble was recorded in mid-1990 before Scream split up later that year, with Grohl venturing to Seattle where he joined Nirvana.
Scream reunited in 2009, with Stax resuming drum duties for the band. Grohl played a few songs with them at a 2010 gig celebrating the 30th anniversary of Washington D.C. rock venue The 9:30 Club. Grohl and Foo Fighters are currently on hiatus, with no plans at the moment to record or tour. Check out this 1988 Scream performance with Dave on drums. Such a baby then, eh?
Meanwhile, check this out from Chris “Shifty” Shiflett, Foo Fighters’ guitarist, who has a new podcast called “Walking The Floor.” www.walkingthefloor.com for more!
Lou Brutus with Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach at Rock On The Range
Pulsealso reporting Papa Roach has launched a PledgeMusic campaign to crowdfund the band’s next studio album, according to The PRP. The campaign page contains a wide number of options through which fans can participate, including a day in the studio with the group for $2,000 and a private acoustic show in your backyard for $75,000. And if you have $600,000 handy, you can purchase Papa Roach’s entire Sacramento, CA studio and all its contents.
Singer Jacoby Shaddix told Lou Brutus at Rock On The Range what he has in mind for the band’s ninth studio effort: “I think it’s time to shake it up again — tone-wise, guitar tone-wise, performance-wise — just something a bit different. Definitely high energy for us on this one and, you know, I mean it’s a classic P. Roach. Elements are always in there, the big guitar riff, the hooky vocal, the anthemic vibe — we still want to maintain that but bring just those different tones and production in.”
Papa Emeritus III and The Nameless Ghouls of Ghost smile for the camera
Ghost fans will be interested in knowing the band have completed work on a new EP to be released this fall and will consist primarily of cover songs. Asked on the No Brown M&MS podcast why they decided to do a covers EP instead of start work on a new album, A Nameless Ghoul explained, “If you hear the EP, don’t think that, ‘Oh, the next album is gonna sound exactly like this,’ but that is a good way for us to sneak in elements that are, like, you might hear a synth sound like this on the next record, but not as evident.“
Ghost released a covers EP called If You Have Ghost in 2013 which included covers of songs by Roky Erickson, Abba and Depeche Mode among others. The Ghoul said, “‘If You Have Ghost’ was definitely a new dimension of pop-rock that we hadn’t really done before. I mean, it’s sort of closer to R.E.M.than it is Black Sabbath. We’re not doing the same thing this time, but we’re doing something else in order to get people to feel comfortable with (the direction of the next album).”
Ghost will also embark on another round of touring this fall to support the EP and the Ghoul indicated there are plans to bring out a bigger show, He remarked, “I’m not gonna throw stones at the show that we’re doing right now, but this was definitely a baby format of what I had in mind . . . I felt that we really need another chance to show what we can do if we have a bigger production on this cycle.”
Today, wish Sean Kinney of Alice In Chains an extremely Happy 5-0!
