Fri-Day! Yes Please!….So stoked about the news yesterday about the upcoming Deftones-Incubus tour with Death From Above 1979 and the Bots that kicks off Jul 22-Aug 30! WOO FREAKING HOO! Means new music on tap from the Deftones, and from what I’ve been told, it should be KILL-ER! See Road Rage for all the stops!….And a big hardDrive WELCOME and ALOHA to all of our new listeners in Tucson, Spokane, Flagstaff and in Honolulu and Maui! Happy to have you on board!….OK, is this taking this idea to a new level or what? Pulse Of Radio reports with their new album called Drones, British rock trio Muse hopes to actually fly drones over the heads of their audience during the band’s live shows in support of the record. Frontman Matt Bellamy told a Los Angeles radio station, “We always like to use the modern technology in our shows, the latest video screens or light shows, lasers, whatever is out there. Drones are obviously an interesting thing to try to bring into the live show so we’re going to try and do that.” Maybe they can use my company to buy them? LOL…..Oh, look, another Dave Grohl story! With Record Store Day happening tomorrow (April 18th), this year’s Record Store Day Ambassador, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss — ironically enough — the continuing decline of record sales. Grohl said how fans get the music doesn’t matter as much to him as long as they keep coming to the shows, explaining, “We’re not selling as many records as we used to, but we’re selling out stadiums, because the people are getting the music somehow and they’re coming to the shows, and they’re singing every word. For me, that live interaction is what made me fall in love with music.” Grohl held up the arrival of cassettes decades ago as another example of a format that was supposed to kill the music business, saying, “When cassettes became popular there were these bumper stickers everywhere that said ‘Home taping is killing the record industry.’ When digital downloading became the industry’s next biggest threat, it just totally echoed what happened when cassettes became popular. Like, ‘Wait a minute, the listener is in control? No!’ And to me, I was like, ‘F**k yeah, man!’” Grohl added when he was growing up around Washington D.C., he and his friends would swap tapes of punk acts all the time, adding, “We might not have bought the record, but we went to every one of those shows.” Foo Fighters will give a special performance at the Record Connection in Niles, OH on Saturday to commemorate Record Store Day. The band apparently will be in attendance at this weekend’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony. Wanna bet they are gonna play with Joan Jett???!!! The Foos are releasing a new EP called Songs From The Laundry Room as a Record Store Day exclusive. It features early Foo Fighters demos that Grohl recorded before the band’s first album, including the previously unreleased “Empty Handed.” Foo Fighters will kick off a major North American tour on July 4th in Washington, D.C. ….I’ve been offered an interview with the director of the new Kurt Cobain documentary, Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck, which debuts on HBO May 4. Pulse says in Courtney Love’s interview with V magazine watching the new documentary about her late husband, Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck, with her daughter Frances was a “very healing” experience. Love said, “To see (the film) in that room with my daughter was very cathartic and I was very happy to spend a little time with him and to find out, to see things and hear audio, and see into his heart.” Love added, “It was an important moment of bonding between Frances and me, and I think it’s very healing for our family and for our relationship. Many people who’ve suffered the after-effects of suicide, and in Frances’s case, like any child of suicide, she wondered what part she played in it and why wasn’t she important enough? I think the film points out that absolutely, without a doubt, from whatever age it is that he starts talking about it, that that was where he was headed.” Love also discussed her relationship with the late Nirvana frontman, saying, “It f**ked me up. I remembered the sexual relationship, which, as you know, is the core of any good marriage. It almost rendered other intimacies meaningless.” The Hole singer and occasional actress continued, “I don’t have a boyfriend right now, so I’m single. (The film) made me really evaluate what, at the age of 50, I want out of a relationship. He’s a hard act to follow. I love him and I always will.” Frances, who is an executive producer on the film, told Rolling Stone she and her mother watched it in a private screening room, with Frances sitting in Love’s lap the entire time. Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck has been screening in limited theatrical release and will premiere on HBO on May 4th. The film relies less on straight documentary reporting and is constructed more like a collage of previously unseen home movies, interviews, animation, photographs and other artifacts, all accompanied by Cobain’s music. (Sigh. So tragic. I often wonder what music Kurt would be making if he were still around. And if that was the case, would there ever be a Foo Fighters? Hmmmm.)…..Monday I will be on the hotLine with Royal Blood. The band had a special guest attend their show this week! Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich joined the British rock duo onstage Wednesday night (April 15th) at Slim’s in San Francisco to perform the final song of the band’s set, “Out Of The Black.” Ulrich previously hung out with Royal Blood last October when they played San Francisco. Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr told Hot Press about rubbing shoulders with the drummer, “Lars Ulrich was a real surprise. I mean, he has two legs and two arms; he’s a regular guy. And really good company.” Sweet. The Bloods are in the U.S. now for a month or so. This July, they will tour with Foo Fighters. I am sure they are pinching themselves every day!….Here’s something Lou Brutus can talk to Marilyn Manson about when he sits down with him at Rock on the Range (which is sold-out, by the way!). According to The PRP, Marilyn Manson has landed a role in the movie Let Me Make You A Martyr, playing a hitman named “Pope.” The film, which has just started shooting, is described as “a story chronicling the consequences of abuse and betrayal while exploring the choices human beings make as a result of fear, love, lust, and hatred.” Manson’s previous screen credits include stints on the shows Sons Of Anarchy and Californication….Rolling Stone reports Green Day, the Black Keys, the Killers, My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy are among the bands that will appear in Guitar Hero Live, the first new Guitar Hero game in five years. The Activision game will return on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii U, with a new controller and revamped, more realistic visuals. A full track list and more bands will be announced as the game’s fall release approaches. Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and former My Chem singer Gerard Way performed at a launch party in New York on Tuesday night (April 14th)…Art Of Dying are returning with new music. “Rise Up” is coming out soon, the first single off their forthcoming album. Jonny Hetherington is on the hotLine Tuesday!….Don’t forget, MONDAY night, 8 PM PT/11 PM ET, RONNIE RADKE from FALLING IN REVERSE is on the new hardDriveRadio APP! Tell your friends.
