They’re baaaccckkk!
The Pulse Of Radio reporting Stone Sour shared not one, but two new songs yesterday (Apr 27th), unveiling the song “Fabuless” along with its accompanying video, as well as a second song, the single, known as “Song #3.” Both tracks appear on the new Stone Sour album, Hydrograd, which now has an official release date of Jun 30th.
Other songs on Hydrograd include “YSIF,” “Taipei Person/Allah Tea,” “Knievel Has Landed,” “Hydrograd,” “The Witness Trees,” “Whiplash Pants,” “Somebody Stole My Eyes,” “When The Fever Broke” and several more.
Frontman Corey Taylor spoke with us about the meaning of the song “Fabuless”: “It very much sums up the state of what I used to call American culture when it comes to empty celebrity. You know — famous people who deserve it about as much as Elvis deserved his black belt. Just very much, very empty, very fake, famous for nothing.“
The video for “Fabuless” features the band members slowly turning into inflatables as they perform for a live audience. In one of the final shots, Taylor is now a member of the crowd and gets his phone slapped out of his hand by the inflatable singer onstage. The scene is a parody of an event that happened last summer when Taylor smacked a smartphone out of the hands of a fan in the first row at a Slipknot show, leading to an uproar online over fans using phones at concerts.
Fans who pre-order Hydrograd at Stone Sour’s website will receive instant downloads of both “Fabuless” and “Song #3.” Stone Sour will play the Rock On The Range Kick-Off Party on Thursday, May 18th at Express Live! in Columbus, OH. The band will also be special guests of Korn on the latter act’s “Serenity Of Summer” trek, which starts on Jun 16th in Salt Lake City and wraps on Aug 02nd in Cleveland.
IN OTHER NEWS…… (sorry, didn’t take pics, so nothing to post….I suck)
And I’m back from Nashville, where I spent an action-filled 26 hours to hang with some radio friends and Seether while they did their rehearsal for their new tour, which happens to kick off on Saturday down here in Fort Myers, FL at Fort Rock! They played the hits and we heard 3 new tunes, including the current single, “Let You Down.”
The night was fun as it was the first time we got to see Clint Lowery of Sevendust, who is joining Seether as touring guitarist and back-up vocalist. They rehearsed at a studio owned by Dolly Parton, so it was so cool to see some of her stage clothes on display, all her gold records and such. But then, something weird. I see two plaques on the wall for Slipknot and Mudvayne. I scratch my head, but on closer examination, I see that they belong to Danny Nozell, former tour manager/manager for those two bands! Then it dawned on me, Danny manages Dolly Parton now! Would’ve love to reconnect with him, but he had left the facility early that day. So bummer! Next time!
I also got to spend the afternoon yesterday with Lzzy Hale! I got the tour of her new home outside Nashville. Talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous! The home is FABULOUS! So happy for her. And I got a ride to the airport in her new truck! Love that girl! The band is working on demos. Nothing set for them just yet recording-wise. Glad she can have the time off to recharge the batteries and enjoy her beautiful abode!
So now I am prepping for Fort Rock. Two days in Fort Myers and two of the hottest days of the year, breaking temperature records. And I HATE THE HEAT! Oh well, one must do what one must do for rock and roll! Looking forward to interviews with 16 bands. More on that next week!
Pulse is also reporting Green Day Authority says Green Day has a huge back catalog of unreleased music that’ll eventually see the light of day. The site reports bassist Mike Dirnt called the previously unheard trove of material a “Machiavellian catalog of s**t” in an interview with Australia’s MusicFeeds, adding, “We have SO much stuff, and some of it has morphed into other songs.”
Dirnt continued that some of the music “took 10, 20 years to evolve but started off as a jam or started off as us singing a different lyric to it or whatever. I mean, there’s little opuses in other songs and things like that we’ve done that people have never heard.”
Dirnt also reveals a lot of the material is in listenable shape, saying, “What’s cool is that a lot of it’s recorded really well, too. There’s cassette tape, demo tape stuff, but there’s also stuff that was recorded very well that sounds like it could be on a record. We just didn’t put it out.” The bassist said that all the music will eventually be released, adding, “I don’t know when they’ll see the light of day, but me and Billie (Joe Armstrong, frontman) always said, ‘At some point everything comes out in the wash.’ At some point it’ll all come out.”
The trio now tours Australia, New Zealand and Europe before kicking off a new round of North American shows on Aug 1st in Auburn, WA.
Our friends in All That Remains released their Madness album and video for the title track today! You MUST grab a copy and see what they’ve done. It’s a new chapter for the band, and you can see they are evolving, like they do on each and every record. The Pulse Of Radio says the clip focuses on the problem of post-traumatic stress disorder and features an appearance from Army Ranger Kris “Tanto” Paronto, part of the CIA annex security team that responded to the terror attack on the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi on Sep 11th, 2012, helping to save over 20 lives while fighting for over 13 hours.
The band said in a statement, “We hope to call attention to the veteran community and the effects of Post Traumatic Stress. There are places you can call if you need someone to talk to. Reach out to the community and you’ll find the shoulder you need!”
The video is split between footage of the band performing in a room that looks like the Oval Office and scenes of a soldier at home, played by Paronto, who’s haunted by visions of what he has seen and endured while on duty.
All That Remains singer Phil Labonte explained the theme of the song: “People tend to go ahead and get into ruts and they’ll do the same thing over and over. And they’ll hope for a different result but, you know, you don’t get the same result. But it’s not just individuals, you can kind of expand that to society and cultures, so it’s really kind of almost a song about, kind of take a step back and look at, you know, whether it be your life on a personal level or, you know, your society and see, what are we doing wrong here?“
All That Remains will launch a tour in support of the disc on Saturday (April 29th) at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Jacksonville, FL, wrapping up with a May 25th finale in Patchogue, NY. I’ll see them on Sunday at Fort Rock! Madness was produced in LA by Howard Benson and All That Remains.
Meanwhile, Kris Paronto has been deployed throughout South America, Central America, the Middle East and North Africa and has worked with the U.S. Government’s Global Response Staff conducting low profile security in high threat environments. The end of the “Madness” clip urges veterans in need of assistance to reach out to the VA Helpline at 877-424-3838 or www.va.gov/homeless, as well as Veterans Crisis Line at 800-273-8255 or www.veteranscrisisline.net.
In This Moment performed a new song, “Oh Lord,” in their set earlier this month in Minneapolis. It also happens to be the new single, which isn’t coming for a few weeks yet. Stay tuned for more info. Will sit down with Maria Brink this weekend!

And finally today, this is definitely for nerds! GAME OF THRONES is returning Jul 16th and the fictional language Dothraki on the show is the latest made-up lingo to capture fan’s curiosity. UC Berkeley/California is hoping to capitalize on that with “The Linguistics of ‘Game of Thrones’ and the Art of Language Invention,” which will be taught for six weeks over the summer by the language’s creator, David J. Peterson. He also created the show’s High Valyrian language and has worked with Shannara Chronicles and The 100 on developing distinctive fictional languages.
