Love the new Rise Against song, “The Violence”! We had Tim McIlrath on the hotLine yesterday and you will be hearing it on hardDrive and the XL very soon. Rise Against has always been a highly political group, but McIlrath told us a while back that he welcomes the chance to engage with fans who hold opposing views: “I can get a fan who disagrees with me about just about every single thing that I believe in, but he’ll be in the front row and he’ll shake my hand and be like, ‘Man, I respect that you’re out there doing this.’ That kind of respect goes much further and those are the kind of fans and the kind of people that I want at our shows and in the Rise Against community.”
Avenged Sevenfold have previewed the music video for their new single, “God Damn,” from their recent album, The Stage.
The entire clip, which was filmed in Feb in the Los Angeles area, will make its online debut on Wed, Apr 26th. The album,The Stage, was given a surprise release at the end of last Oct with almost no promotion beforehand. Avenged Sevenfold’s last video was for the title track of the album, which debuted at Number Four on the Billboard 200 album chart following its unprecedented release.
Inspired by the writings of Carl Sagan and Elon Musk, The Stage is the band’s first thematic release and centers around the concept of artificial intelligence. Avenged Sevenfold will join Metallica for the latter’s 2017 North American tour. The trek kicks off on May 10th in Baltimore, MD with Volbeat also on the bill. Read the full story at Blabbermouth.
Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell performed his new solo track called “The Promise” on Wed night’s (Apr 19th) edition of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The song is the title theme from the upcoming film starring Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon, a love triangle drama set against the Armenian genocide.
The slaughter of the Armenians by the Turks claimed more than 1.5 million lives over a century ago, but Cornell told us that the events of the movie are still relevant today: “That was one of the things that was important to me, was not just telling a century-old story, but telling that story because it’s happening today. We need to be aware that these things happen now. We need to kind of be slapped in the face with the fact that, as horrendous as this was a century ago, in many parts of the world we haven’t gotten anywhere.”
The Promise premiered last fall at the Toronto International Film Festival and opens in theaters tonight (Apr 21st). Cornell will donate his proceeds from the song to the International Rescue Committee, which responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic well-being, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster.
Soundgarden last month announced a North American tour that will kick off on Apr 28th in Tampa, FL, winding down on May 27th at the Rocklahoma festival in Pryor, OK. The band has been working on material for its seventh studio album, which will follow up 2012’s King Animal.

The Pulse Of Radio reports Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo says his 12-year-old son Tye is not fooling around when it comes to his current gig as temporary bass player for Korn. Trujillo told Brazil’s Globo Play, “It’s a beautiful thing, ’cause he’s still a 12-year-old, and he still acts wild and crazy, as a 12-year-old should, but when it comes to music, he’s very focused. And with Korn, it’s funny, because I haven’t shown him anything at all for the Korn stuff — I’ve been too busy and I’ve been out of town a lot — and he’s taking this opportunity very serious.”
Tye made his live debut on bass with Korn on Monday night (April 17th) in Bogota, Colombia. Tye is filling in for Korn’s regular bassist, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, who was unable to make the band’s South American tour due to what the group called “unforeseen circumstances.”
Robert Trujillo said he “never forced” his son to play music, adding, “I always felt that if he wanted to embrace an instrument, great; I’d try to help him with it. So initially, at first, it was drums. And then around that same time, when he was one, he had a little plastic guitar, and he would play it all the time, just strumming it — always strumming it everywhere, to the point where the plastic was worn down.”
Robert told the Huffington Post earlier this week, “My son is an amazing bass player and a really great writer.” Tye, who has his own band called the Helmets, will play four more shows with Korn on its South America run, ending on Thu, Apr 27th in Chile. Arvizu will rejoin the group at the Carolina Rebellion festival on May 6th.
